Hi Bryan,

Could you please confirm are you able to play the same video file in the Mac local drive? Make sure you have updated the latest utility and fimware in the unit.

Yes, the movies can be played locally, but only through iTunes. And yes, I've updated to the latest firmware version. I'm guessing it has to do with the DRM feature on the files downloaded from iTunes?

Because of the DRM protection (Digital Right Protection) on iTunes, you are not allowed to download the movies from iTunes directly. As a movies lover, I am eager to keep my favorite movies on my own device such as Apollo Cloud on iOS devices. Recently, my friends recommend a great converter to me. Hello, the problem that you are told that the app does not have permission to play this file type, is because both the movies and TV series in iTunes are protected by DRM technology, which limits the playing of the videos in iTunes to only the selected Apple devices. So what you have to do is to choose to delete the DRM in iTunes and send it to the apps we usually use, such as tidal, Spotify, etc YouTube also has DRM protection, so Spotify music converter / iTunes converter / tidal converter will be needed to remove DRM protection.

You was told the app is not authorized to play this file type (m4v) beacause the iTunes movies was drm-protected. Just like Apple music, the tracks from Apple Music are protected by DRM, if you want to downlaod the tracks, you need to get rid of the DRM. The same, to play the iTunes movies on other app, you need to remove the DRM first and then you can download the movies easily.
