Pegasus R4 Rebuild failed; new drive now marked as "dead"

A drive failed on my Pegasus R4.

I've swapped it for a new one, but the rebuild process failed near the beginning and the drive was shown as "dead".

I forced it back online with promiseutil, but it seems no data gets copied onto it (even though the whole array, logical drive and physical drives show as 'ok').  Both options in the UI utility (passthru and unconfigured) are un-ticked and can't be enabled, with the drive now being "configured".

How do I get the new drive to its original (unconfigured/passthru) state again?

Armin,

 You can start the rebuild on new drive. Because the rebuild might be stopped due to another drive failure in the unit.

- Open Promise Utility and click on "Background Activities"
- Unlock the Utility and click on the Start button next to the Rebuild.
-  Select the Source drive and the Target drive and Start the process.
- It will take fe hours to complete the process and you can see the progress in the bottom.

Thanks for the answer and yes, drive is mounting (but the data on it is mostly damaged now).

I was just looking for a way to clear the configured state of the new drive, so I could have another shot at the rebuilding process, since that failed and no data was written to the new drive, as far as I could hear.

Is there such a way?

 

PS. I'm running a redundancy check at the moment.

Hi Armin,

If the Disk array and the Logical Drive are showing OK then it is already in Online state. The volume should mount.

Kindly reboot the Pegasus and check if the volume is mounted.

Also check in Disk Utility to see if the Pegasus volume show up there.If it does and if volume does not mount, then please verify the disk in Disk Utility or run First Aid.

It should give you an error message if it has any File System Errors. 

Let us know if that worked.

If not, you might have to open case @ https://support.promise.com with the subsystem logs to find out the exact problem.

Steps to save the subsystem report :

 

1) Open Promise Utility.

2) Click subsystem information icon on the top of the window.

3) Click the lock symbol on the left bottom corner of the screen to unlock the utility.

4) Click on save service report button to save the subsystem report and attach it to the case
