For anyone experiencing a power supply failure in their Pegasus - as I did in my Pegasus32 R4 - after a lot of looking I was able to find yesterday a replacement via eBay from KDM Power in Houston. The unit arived today, install took 10 minutes, and my system is up and running again.

Here is a link to the unit; I found the people at KDM to be very knowledgable, responsive, and helpful:

I have no relationship with KDM aside from being a happy, and relieved, customer.

Hi Jake,

I have the same problem. After a power outage the power supply unit – probably – failed in my Pegasus32 R8.

Just a short question:
The unit which is in the Ebay linkFSP250-50LC with supposedly 320w –is a little different from my unit which is a
FSP250-50FEB(A) (see photos attached)

3 questions to you:
1) Do you have this exact unit from the Ebay link or did they send you another one which looks like mine? (the one in the Ebay link has black connectors – mine has white)

2) If you have the one from your link – is it 320w or is it actually 250w

3) does the PSU that you got also only 2 connectors? 1x 24-pin and 1x 12-pin?

I bought here in Germany a replacement FSP250-50FEB (without the "(A)") but the connectors were all different and there were 9 instead of 2. I have to send this unit back.

I just want to make sure I order the right one this time at KDM. Because the Promise support here in Europe would not help me at all.
And the distributor of these PSUs here in Germany says it is a custom OEM unit (for Promise) that they cannot provide.
So I might have to order in USA at KDM or in China.

I am looking forward to your answer.
So I can contact KDM.

Best regards from Berlin, Germany
Marc

(don't mind the emojis – I made them for a chinese manufacturer on Aliexpress who wanted to make a special version of this unit for me – but I hope I can order one at KDM)

Hi Marc,

Sorry you're going through the same challenges with your Pegasus and that Promise is not helping at all. Frustrating that they won't be of any assistance on an expensive product that seems to have a high failure rate in the PSU.

Anyway, please know that anything I share here is anecdotal, not authoritative: just from my experience (positive with KDM), but I am not an electrical engineer or expert in this stuff!

Before buying, I wrote with KDM via ebay to confirm the PSU would work, and had good conversations with knowledgeable people.

On the voltage, I asked the same question about the 350w VS 250w, and this was the reply:

"The extra wattage is standby capacity, which is useful for future upgrades. The power supply will only draw the wattage required by the system."

I have had no issues with the PSU at all.

As for the connectors, before ordering the person I chatted with said this:

" Additionally, per our engineer’s notes, when you receive the item, you may notice an extra 8-pin connector. This connector is intended for a different Promise model and does not need to be used. Please connect only the two connectors required for your system. "

Sure enough, mine had an extra 8 pin, but I disregarded it as suggested and again have had no issues.

So my suggestion would be to chat with the KDM reps on ebay to confirm everything and then order. It solved my issues perfectly!

Good luck!

Hi Jake.

Thank you for your fast answer.

Yeah Promise support is practically non existent. 🫠
They literally linked to this post and more or less implied "Good luck – we have no parts and we don't care about you anymore."

I paid almost 7000 EUR (8250 USD) for this machine – including the fact that I bought the version with the lowest tier HDDs and replaced the higher capacity HDDs myself from the free market – and it is a disgrace that I have to research literally in the whole world (USA, China, Netherlands, Germany, England and right now Scotland) to find a replacement for a 50-70 Dollar unit.

Someone could think that they want to "force" you to pay another couple of thousands of bucks if your PSU fails.

I was blindsided by the fact that the most common PSU sold here everywhere here in Germany had a totally different set of connectors – and then the rabbithole search began 6 days ago.

I am right now in contact with a european (scottish reseller) about this unit (for all my european friends) and I am waiting for confirmation:
https://www.ebay.de/itm/156287803104

A european source would be better for me logistically. But I would contact KDM again if this option fails. My initial contact with KDM was very positive. They were very helpful.

Also it is good to know that an R4 has the same PSU as the R8 – which could have led to another rabbithole.

So thank you very much for your reply.

Best regards,
Marc
