I see in the VTrak Ex30 SR6.3 Compatability List v1.02

There is reference to Micron S650DC MTFDJAK800MBS SAS SSDs as being supported SSD drives.

I have a few of these drives:

None of the drives I have in hand seem to be recognized at all by Ex30f storage devices?

Have tried with both SSD support enabled and disbaled. Have also tried on multiple Ex30f devices.

The drives can be directly attached to Linux based hosts and other devices via HBA's and are seen and function just fine. Under seatools, they show a LBA sector size of 512 and Physical sector size of 4096, and respond to all commands.

Any insights as to VTRAK compatability of these drives or any hints on how to get these recognized by the Ex30F storage arrays?

Best regards,

Dean

Hi Dean,

Do you mean that they are not recognized at all or that they show as OK, not usable?

I don't think that's an option. There may be an option for TRIM support.

Early Ex30 chassis versions had a problem with 12 Gb/s SAS devices, as I recall, the drives would not be seen, this looks like the problem here.

There is a dongle (a device that fits between the drive and the SAS backplane) that will fix this issue. It's PN is X30SAS12DGL.

They may be available at promiseworks, but if you can't find any please email sales@promise.com and tell them you need PN X30SAS12DGL. They should be able to help you.

Not recognized at all .....

Yes --- looks like the option specifically is "SSD Trim Support" ... This option is what I was referencing.

Thanks for the information on the dongle. I will look around for these devices to continue my testing of these drives.

Many thanks .... Dean

Hi Dean,

WRT this setting, I know you want to disable it with the Pegasus. I've never tested an Ex30 with SSDs, but if performance is low  you may want to disable it.
