I got an old SmartStor NS4300. It is connected to 1Gb switch, shows in PASM that ethernet link speed is 1000Mbps, but file transfers never exceeded 8-9 MB (so, less than 100Mbps). I've already tested some patchcords (everyone of them certified to 1Gbps). Where there can be problem?

Hi Adrian,

Please go to https://support.promise.com to register the product and create a support ticket with the PASM screenshot and your network settings for further investigation.

I can not register on support page - it says "password should be at least 6 characters" while my pssword has 10.

Hi Adrian,

I have both an NS2300 and an NS4300 updated to the latest firmware.

With the NS2300 and 2 single drive RAID0 LUNs, I typically see transfer rates of about 12-13 MB/s. The performance is pretty much what you would expect from a 100 Mb/s fast ethernet connection even thought I have a 1Gbe connection.

The NS4300 has a 4-drive RAID5 with relativlty new 1TB drives. Typically I see about 20-25 MB/s in file transfers. But I recall that before I updated the drives I was seeing around 12 MB/s. This was with old Seagate 750GB drives.

So the transfer rates you are seeing are a little bit slow, but they are in the ballpark of what you can expect.

Newer drives helped with my NS4300, but there is another factor, if the network is busy, your performance will be poor. I once directly connected the NS4300 to my computer and saw read speeds of 50 MB/s, unfortunatly I use it to share files on my network and this is not a realistic configuration.

One caution regarding hard drive updates, I would not suggest using drives larger than 1 TB. Use larger drives at your own risk.
