Slow 10Gbe connection to Synology NAS

I already chatted with Synology support and they said that I had to check with Promise to see if my settings are incorrect.

I have a Synology 1817+ with 10Gbe PCIe controller installed with a 10Gbe cable going into the SANLink2 10G SFP+, which then has a TB2 cable going into my Pegasus2 R8 (which is also connected to my R6), and another TB2 cable going into my iMac (13,2: late 2012 27"). I'm only getting between 50-100MB/s transferring from the Pegasus2 R8 to my NAS which is 1Gb speeds, not 10Gb so I'm wondering if there's a setting incorrect in my SANLink2 setup or on my iMac.

Am I missing something that's preventing my speeds from increasing?

I'm having the exact same issue, .. 110mb/s write and 200mb/s read !!

You can add me to the list of disgruntled Mac/Synology users.

I have a Mac Pro trashcan connected directly via the sanlink2 to a Synology 1817 with 4x8TB Lonewolfs and 2x Samsung EVO SSDs for read/wrte caching. Driver 1.8.2. Peer to peer network, just for the mac pro. 

At first I was treated to speeds of up to 40 MB/s read write, until I manually disabled SMB packet signing. Now I am similair to others here, barely breaking gigabit speeds.

Synology also told me to contact Promise. Promise... what gives?

If past experience is anything to go by, however, I blame Apple. I'm on 10.12.6 Sierra. So...  Has anyone actually got decent transfer speeds on a mac? At all?

Even I am experiencing similar problem with one of my client. transfer-download speed is maxed out to 129 Mbps.

The setup is Cisco 10Gb Ethernet, EMC Unity 300 with NL-SAS Drives, iMAC with Thunderbolt 2 and SANLink2 10G Base-T

I am getting the same transfer speed of 110 Mbps (without SANLinlk-1500 MTU), however with SANLink and MTU 9000 the speed has marginally increased upto 129 Mbps (latest drivers installed).

Anyone has worked and tested out on similar setup?

Hi,

Most likely the issue is SMB signing. Apple added SMB signing to OS X at about 10.11 or so, it's enabled by default.

What is SMB signing?

SMB Signing is a feature through which communications using SMB can be digitally signed at the packet level. Digitally signing the packets enables the recipient of the packets to confirm their point of origination and their authenticity.

The problem with SMB signing is that throughput is affected.

Promise has a knowledge base article on how to disable SMB signing.

Ditto:  I'm using a MacPro6,1 (10.13.3) with SanLink2 10G Base-T (Drv 1.8.2) and I'm only getting Gigabit Speeds.  I've disabled SMB Signing and there's no difference in copy speeds.

I'm connecting to a Windows 2012 R2 Server and I'm getting at best 800mbps.  When I copy from Server A to Server B I can get 2.4gbps.  MacPro, ServerA, and ServerB are all connected to the same NetGear XS712T Switch.  ServerA and ServerB are the same model Dell PowerEdge R520.  Admittedly, a 10gbps connection using 6gbps SATA drives; there's room for improvement but I'm currently focused on improving the MacPro read/write speeds...

I'm going to erase the MacPro and revert to 10.11 or 10.12 to test things.  The kicker is; Adobe Creative Cloud requires 10.11 and I think they may be requiring 10.12 for certain apps.  Everyone has to be on the same page or production slows/stops.  I'm looking in your direction Apple...

A fresh install of OS X 10.12 and Sanlink2 Drivers 1.8.2 and now I’m getting 1.4gbps download speeds.  After disabling SMB Signing my download speeds crept up to 2.0gbps.

I adjusted the Setting Mode to “High Throughput” using the SanLink Utility: no change 2.0gbps. Adjusting the Setting Mode to “Server” using the SanLink Utility: no change either 2.0gbps.

Apparently, Apple’s 10.13.3 ruins 3rd party 10gbps performance.  I’m curious if their $5,000 iMac Pro with built-in 10gbps Ethernet can achieve 10gbps speeds…
