Hi all

What's the best sector size to choose when creating a locial drive for RAID 5 with state of the art NAS hard disk eg Toshiba N300. These new hard drives - as I am aware of - use 4k.

I am using a Pegasus2 R6 with the latest firmware with Mac OS 11.6.3.

Is there a white paper on the impact of stripe size and sector size in regard of the disk size I use?Is there a white paper on the impact of stripe size and sector size in regard of the disk size I use?

THX for your help.

Hello Patrick,

You can choose a stripe size of 64 KB, 128 KB, 256 KB, 512 KB, and 1 MB. 512 Bytes is the most common sector size and the default used.

Thanks, thats the information I already found in the Knowlegde Base article here: https://kb.promise.com/thread/how-do-i-create-a-volume-on-a-pegasus/

I am interested in the effects of the different values. Especially for the sector size. For the stripe size I assume that for large disks a higher value is better because of the read/write speed.
