Seagate 3TB failures

I have a Pegasus2 R8 24TB. Its equipped with Seagate Barracuda 3TB, the very ones that are presently subject to a class action lawsuit over failure rates. If you are not aware, there was a data farm that reported that after year 3, the drives have a greater than 40% failure rate. Though they seem to have run the drives at a load and environment they weren't designed for.

My DAS is about 3.25 years old, and in the last 3 months i've had 3 drives fail. I had 2 fail within an hour of each other over the weekend, thankfully its RAID6. Anyone else face this issue? I bought a supply of replacement drives of the same/make model, but i've gone through them all now. I'm quite worried i'll have a 3 drive failure.

How best to get new drives? Unfortunately, I do not have any handy ways to backup 16TB of data. I had considered replacing one drive to a new make, but i'm worried that the stresses of rebuilding 8 drives will just cause more drive failures.

Hi Watson,

Yes, there were a set of Seagate Barracuda 3TB drives which were failing often compared to the other drives. This issue was reported few years before and after that there were not many failures .

If you still want to replace the drives , you can refer the below comaptible list and replace the drives to complete the rebuild.
