Hi Michael,

While the NUUO NVRmini 2 does look a lot like the NS4600, it is not a rebranded Promise Product. You will have to go to the Nuuo web page for support.

Hi, im sure that it is because on the board is NS4600P mar, and even when connect with serial cable, it boots as NS4600P

now, please, can somebody tell me root password to this board?

Hi Michael,

After looking closer, the 2-bay NUUO bears a superficial resemblance to the NS4600, but the 4 bay unit does not. The NS4600 has 4 drives stacked vertically, the 4-bay NUUO has the drives side by side horizontally. Rebranding does not change a product's form factor.

The NUUO uses the Marvell 88F6282 processor at 1.6 GHz, the NS4600 uses an AMCC powerPC 431Exr processor at 800 MHZ. The specs are different.

And if this were a rebranded promise product, you would still have to go to NUUO for support.

Hello, thanks for reaction. this is picture of the board from NUUO, so i think there must be way to put original FW to this... NUUO has almost zero support :(

Hi Michal,

I recieved a reply to my query last night, and apparently there was some OEM work with NUUO many years ago, but I have no details other than that. And apparently, there was a Nuuo nvrmini, but my googling found only it's successor, the Nuuo nvrmini 2. Obviously you are correct that it is Promise hardware.

That being said, since it is an OEM product, support is through the OEM Vendor, NUUO.

Also, if the firmware is custom then the OEM would have different passwords. And chances are that you will not be able to load promise firmware as it will verify the vendor code from the file. This may be why your attempts to update to Promise firmware via the ramdisk have failed.

As a side note, loading firmware from the ramdisk was broken in later releases of the NS4600. The problem, the firmware files were larger than the RAMDISK. Also you can only upgrade NS4600 firmware, trying to downrev the firmware may have unpreditable results. So any firmware upgrades to the latest promise relase have to be done from the GUI.

Sorry.
