I have a Pegasus 3 R6 in RAID 5 and my physical drive 5 is dead which I will be replacing in a few days time. I just like to know more on the rebuild process. During rebuilding what will be my source physical drive? Target physical drive I believe will be PD5 since it is the replaced one. Apologies for the ignorance not an IT guy here just a plain editor.

Physical Drives in the Array:

===============================================================================

SeqNo PdId CfgCapacity FreeCapacity OpStatus

===============================================================================

1     2    4TB         3.42MB       OK

2     3    4TB         3.42MB       OK

3     4    4TB         3.42MB       OK

4     5    4TB         3.42MB       Dead

5     6    4TB         3.42MB       OK

Thanks in advance for those who will respond.

Hi Neo,

RAID controller automatically takes the Source physical drive from the associated disk array .We have to be sure when selecting target drive.Target drive should be the one that you are going to rebuild.In this it should be PD 5.

Regarding dead drive,please open case in https://support.promise.com/ and attach the service report for further Investigation.

Steps to save the subsystem report :

 1) Open Promise Utility.

2) Click subsystem information icon on the top of the window.

3) Click the lock symbol on the left bottom corner of the screen to unlock the utility.

4) Click on save service report button to save the subsystem report and attach it to this case.

Regards

Arun
