I have a a drive thats about to fail, did not fail yet, the utility app from Promise still shows all drive in green. However, I get constant messages that minor read issues are occurig. How can I find out what drive is about to fail and replace it?

Hi David,

You can find out which drive it is by checking the event logs. Please install the Promise Utility, there is an event tab at the top.

If you have a very old macOS then post the macOS version here and we can direct you to a Promise Utility for that macOS.

Once you find which drive you can force it offline from the Physical Drive tab. There is a three dot menu (...) that has the offline option.

If the replacement drive is unconfigured, when you hot-plug it into the Pegasus and an auto-rebuild should start. Hot plugging means to plug the drive in while the Pegasus is powered up.

Thank you very much, i installed the app installed and I run the latest OS on my mac. The Raid is just 10+ years old. I saw upon checking the Event logs, PD 4 has a minor event. I assume It means Physical Drive 4.

That elipese menu I have has no offline option. can I just hot swap it out and replace the unconfigured spare drive?

Hi David,

Apologies, you will have to use the CLI to force the drive offline. Open a terminal and enter promiseutil, this will take you to the CLI.

The command to offline PD4 is...

phydrv -a offline -p 4

You can also hot swap it, an auto-rebuild should start if the replacement drive is unconfigured.

It's a good idea to pull the catch all the way out, this will unseat the drive from the backplane, then wait 20-30 seconds for the drive to spin down before removing it.
