Promise Pegasus3 R4 - Swapping Full Drives

Hello,

I work in the film industry and we have recently purchased a Pegasus 3 R4 16TB (4 x 4TB Toshiba MD04ACA drives) as an on-set backup drive for our raw footage. We're shooting in 6K, and the drives are already starting to fill up fast. I'm wondering how easy it is to swap out all four drives with new Seagate Iron Wolf 4TB SATA drives, and what is required to make that work?

I've checked the compatiblity list and Seagate drives are on there, and I went a step further and called Promise just to confirm the drive would work (which they did).

I'm wondering if it's just as simple as physically removing the four drives from the drive bays and installing the new ones, or if there are more steps involved. Once we're done shooting I'll need to move all raw files to a new backup drive for storage, and to free up the Pegasus drive for our next movie, so I want to make sure those Toshiba drives are still accessible.

Any insights on this would be much appreciated!

If what you want to do is create a new RAID on new drives, that's pretty much all that need to be done. But don't do this while the Pegasus is attached to the computer and the storage is mounted. Disconnect the TB cable, the Pegasus will power down, then you can swap the drives and use the Promise Utility to create a new array+LUN, then you will have to use disk utility to put a filesystem on the LUN. The Promise Utility has a wizard that will do it all the steps for you.
