Promise Pegasus R6 - Drive issue - Hard Drive question

It looks like I need to get a new spare for my R6.  I can see all the data from 5 of the 6 drives.  It seems I have not lost anything but I apparently have some problems with drive 6.  Now I understand this process, I swap the drive out and rebuild the array so I continue to have stability at the same or higher level RAID.  Right now I'm at RAID 05.  I currently have 2TB drives, this was a 2013 or 2014 purchase.  So I'm wondering if I can buy bigger drives now and swap them out over time.  First I swap the spare, number 6, the bad one now, to say a 4TB or 6TB drive then I eventually match what ever I get and swap those out one at a time.  Will this work?  I do have all the data backed up to LTO or on our Shared storage so I could simply wipe the drive and get larger drives.  It seems like swapping drives one at a time would be better in case I do need immediate access to any data.

Thanks.

Hi Don,

If you swap a 2TB drive with a larger size, only 2TB will be used bythe array; the rest will not be added to the usable capacity.

The best way to do it is backup the data, replace all the drives with a larger size, create a new Disk Array and Logical Drive, then restore the data.

Thanks Richard.  I'm curious if I could add say 6x 8TB internals?  I see the compaitibility chart and it's a bit out dated.  Any ideas on that?

I would search the Fourms for other similar questions on drive compatibility... 8^)
