We are going to purchase a new Promise pegasus 2 R4 ,casue our old Promise pegasus 2 R4 was dead /not powering up and the hard drives are fine.Please suggest - If we buy a new Promise pegasus 2 R4 disk enclosure with out Hard dives and mount old hard disk to the new Promise pegasus 2 R4 disk enclosure will loose any data. We can mount the same volume to this Promise pegasus 2 R4 .Please help us to take the dicision.

Hi MS,
If you put all four of the disks from your old R4 in to a new R4, and if at least three of the disks are good if this is a RAID 5, you will be able to mount the volume to recover the data.
I would recommend that you move the data off the old disks and put the new disks back in the new R4 so you can take advantage of all new hardware...

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the suggestion, will consider the recommented.I want to make sure that the data will recover using new R4 that we are going to purchase.The old box was configuered as RAID 5 with 8TB 2TBx4 Hard disk drives.Is that any complications occure when we mount the volume in to new R4 or we have to reconfigure the disk again or need to use any recovery software to retrive the data from the volume.Please suggest .I think your suggestion will help us to slove the issues.

Every Promise RAID set keeps all of the configuration information on the disks, not the storage system.
This means that you can move a disk set to practically any Promise system and they will be usable.
