Hi,
Really hoping someone can help. I have a Promise 2 R8 drive with 8 years of my career backed up on it and I cannot access it now. I had to purchase a new MacBook pro (running OS 12.1) recently when my old one crashed. The new MacBook only has USB -C ports it for plugging in drives. I purchased the Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbotl 3 adapter from Apple so that I could plug the Promise 2 into the computer. When plugged in, the drive powers up and remains on, but never appears as a recognied drive. I have installed the driver I found on the promise website (MacDrv_V6.2.9) and can see it installed in my extensions. I know that the drive is still working as I plugged a friend older Macbook in and it mounted immediately. But I am completely stumped here. The Promise Utility App does not recognize it either.  Any advice would be a huge blessing. Thank you.

Hi Ian,

New macs have macOS Sequioa and you can't use kernel extensions anymore, you have to use the DEXT driver. MacDrv_V6.2.9 is a Kernel Extension, it can't be used.

Here is our Knowledge Base article on installing the DEXT driver.

Also, be advised that the Pegasus2 may have disconnect issues or not show up at all if the firmware is too far downrev. But you can update the firmware from your friends macbook if that is the case.

This solution worked for my Pegasus R4 on my Macbook Pro M4 (running Sequoia).  Thanks.

Hi, RP, I have a M2 Macbook that I need to connect to the Pegasus2 R4, when I look at the drivers it seems like it endes on M1 Mac.  Is this true or would this DEXT driver mentioned above work on it or is this Apples to Oranges?  Thanks!  The answer was found here, I believe, thanks all, this is a really great community BTW!   https://forum.promise.com/thread/pegasus-2-r4-thunderbolt-2-into-mac-studio-m2/

Hi Travis,

The driver is for Apple Silicon Macs, which are of the ARM architecture. The driver is written for the Apple Silicon architechure, which is the same for M1, M2, M3, M4 and and future M-series Macs.

The DEXT driver will work with any Apple Silicon Mac.

The DEXT driver is also backwards compatible with earlier Pegasus units, like the Pegasus1, Pegasus 2 and Pegasus 3.
