Pegasus2 R8 Not Mounting with iMac 24-inch, M1, 2021

I'm using macOS Ventura Version 13.0.1.  I've connected the drive to the iMac via Apple's Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter.  The drive lights up, spins, but then shuts down.

I have previously tried updating the driver SR3.4.16 (6.2.17-3 (Out-Box for M1 Mac)) but no luck.  I did follow the instructions correctly about enabling kernel extensions.  Is this the correct driver?  I tried downloading the firmware update from https://www.promise.com/us/Support/DownloadCenter but it keeps saying the file is corrupt.  Is the firmware update necessary?

I came across another post somewhere indicating that the iMac cannot power various peripherals and a docking station would be required.  If that's true, could someone tell me how much power the Pegasus2 R8 requires to run?  I couldn't find it in the specs.  I don't want to buy a powered docking station without guaranteeing it will work with the drive.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Apple's 2021 24-inch iMac with the M1 processor only has USB Type-C ports, which means that you're going to need a dongle and a dock station for the drive to work.

I was looking at the OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock:

But I can't tell from the power consumption document if there's enough power to drive the Pegasus2 R8.  Would I connect from the iMac to the dock via the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter?  And from there I need a dongle?  How exactly do I get a dongle for the drive?  Is this something you can buy separately and "pair" with the drive somehow?

The Pegasus is powered by a standard power cable that plugs into a wall outlet. It is not powered through the Thunderbolt cable.

There may be connetivity issues with some docks. You can test this by connecting the Pegasus directly to your MAC, once you get it working connect it through the dock. If the Pegasus works directly connected but not through the dock then there is some compatibility issue with that dock.

The latest Promise Utility will fail a firmware update with a Pegasus 2, this has been reported and will be fixed in an upcoming Promise Utility update. The workaround is to use a slightly older Pegasus Utility. I believe that v4.06.0000.01 should work.

You will need to update to the Pegasus 2 firmware to the latest release for use with Ventura or Monterey.

Also, it's probably best to use the user space driver.

Be advised that installing this deletes the kernel space driver if it is installed, but you will have to reboot if the kernel space driver is still loaded in memory for it to be unloaded. As you have installed the kernel space driver a reboot after installing the user space driver will be required.

I'm an idiot.  Use the Thunderbolt ports, not the USB-C ports... doh!
