Hi Daniel,
Regarding the driver use this.
You should use the latest Pegasus1 firmware.
WIthout the latest firmware you may see issues like random dismounts, the Volume not mounting after a reboot, or the Mac may not see the Pegasus at all. These issues might be seen, but only with very old firmware.
To do a firmware update (if needed), you'll need this Promise Utility.
There is a Knowledge Base article on updating the firmware.
This worked great ! thanks R P
hi R P
as mentioned your previous repy to my problem was very helpful - I used the driver your suggested and the utility you suggeted to install the firmware you suggested. However now 6 months later I am all of sudden no longer able to mount the Pegasus1. I the drive itself know it is working well. I am still on the same computer MacBook Pro 2021 M1 Max - my OS has since been update to 15.5 (buth that update does not coincide with the drive not being recognized).
I have again followed all the steps that you listed.
However I don't seem to be able to update firmware because now the Promise Utility does not seem to allow me to anything except install it ? i e the app opens but offers no functionality with which to update the firmware as described in the KB article you linked me too.
any help here would be greatly appreciated
thanks,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
I have again followed all the steps that you listed.
This is not appropriate. Before you had no driver installed, the directions were to install the driver. But drivers don't uninstall themselves, something has happened and it needs to be root caused.
We have a basic troubleshooting guide, see if this will help you debug the issue.
Thanks R P
I have followed the trouble shooting guide you sent
power and thunderbolt connection all fine
driver is installed and enabled, and confirmed this according to nested set of troubleshooting articles

however pegasus still not showing up in disk utility (not just not mounted, but not recognized at all)
?
Hi Daniel,
It looks like the update to 15.5 broke something.
In a very few cases, we've found that reinstalling the driver fixes issues like this.
To reinstall the DEXT driver follow these steps.
1. Uninstall the driver using the DEXT installer app in the Applications folder.
2. Reboot your Mac.
3. Install the DEXT driver with the DEXT installer app in the Applications folder.
If the driver is installed the DEXT installer app will be an uninstaller, if the driver is not installed the DEXT installer app will be an installer. The reboot is necessary to unload the driver previously installed as it will still be active in memory.
thanks R P
I have adone these steps - but am stuck in same situtaion
I am not sure 15.5 OS cataylzed this issue - it was installed in May - and I have been using the drive fine in the month of June and this problem of not mouting/not appearing in disk utility began just a week ago.
Hi Daniel,
Then it appears that this is not a driver or OS issue. There are only a few possibilities left.
1. The chassis has failed.
2. The Thunderbolt 2 cable is bad.
3. The TB3 > TB2 adapter is bad.
I have seen chassis failures where the Pegasus powers up, but the Pegasus1 and Pegasus2 will power on with no TB cable attached (Unlike the Pegasus3/32). So it will power up even if the TB connection is bad. So it's either the connection (TB cable/adapter) or the Chassis.
Thanks RP
the cable and adapter are fine - work well w other devices - so by process of elimination it is chassis
can you elaborate what this is, and what the next steps are
thanks
Hi Daniel,
The Pegasus R6 is long EOL and we have no means to repair a chassis. So the next step is to replace the chassis.
The RAID set can be moved to another Pegasus, a Pegasus2, a Pegasus3 or a Pegasus32 and the volume should mount.
Replacements can be found at places like EBay, Amazon and even Google Shopping.
Another option is the Promise Shop which currently has a refurbished diskless Pegasus R6 available for $451 USD.
Both Pegaus units need to be powered off before moving the disks, it's suggested to remove the power cables from both.
ah ok
thanks RP
I'll look around and try to save for that.
