Hello, I have a Pegasus R4 drive in RADI 5. The disk number 4 had failed. The red light is on and the application says that its DEAD.My question is can I replace it with any brand of 2Tb drive? Is there any special procedure for replacing the drive to ensure that I keep my data intact?

Hi Paul,
In case if the drive has any errors like (Bad Sectors, Command times out, PFA, SMART) then please replace it with a same capacity(2TB) drive listed in Promise compatiblity list and before you start Rebuild please make sure the Logical Drive status is set to Critical and then you can Hotplug the new drive which will initiate the Auto rebuild on the replaced drive.
Below is the Compatibilty list for Pegasus R4 unit:

For more information you can also call Promise Tech Support on 408-220-1500.
Thanks..
Hello, since my last post in which I replaced the HD and everything has been fine until today when the number 4 drive failed again. I have looked for the same model Hitachi 2T drive but it looks as if this drive has been discontiuned. In the compatibility list are drives of 3 and 4T. I dont know if these can be mixed with a 2T system. Can you surgest a 2T drive thats compatibile.
Thanks

Use a Seagate 2tb or 3tb or 4tb Barracuda drives they have comptaiblity with the r4
I know they say on the pdf manual only the 3tb and 4tb are compatable but thats a, load of crap they all are the same drives with different capacity they will work.
