After years of use my Pegasus R-4 has now killed 3 drives in the last bay. Each time they have succesfully rebuilt and lasted a few days then red light and DEAD in Promise Utility. So are these drives actually dead? Seems like they couldn't be. How do I solve this problem?

Hi Jon,

More information is needed. Please get a service report from the Promise Utility, zip it and upload it here.

Hi Jon,

Since you have an M4i you must be using an Intel Mac Pro. The error message means you selected an M1 Promise Utility.

Please delete the Utility you installed and install this Promise Utility (v4.06.0000.01).

I installed new Promise Utility software and generetad service report. Please confirm that you received. Thank you.

Hi Jon,

Please compress the service report and attach it to your forum post. There is an "attach" button at the right side of each post.

You need to compress is because you cannot attach an html file, zip files can be attached.

Hi John,

I did not notice that you attached it to the original post. That being said...

First, this is a Pegasus1 R4, not a Pegasus R4i which is the category you posted this to. If we don't know the product being discussed we can't understand the issue correctly and we can't necessarily give good advise.

The same drive has been installed since Aug 3rd when the logs start. The drive serial number is at the far right.

As you can see the drive is timing out and being reset by the firmware.

On Aug 11th it shows that the drive was marked dead due to removal.

This drive was failing anyway and would have eventually been marked dead by the firmware, but the event logs show it was physically removed. If the drive was not physically removed then the Pegasus may be developing a poblem with slot 4.

Also there is no SMART data. Please open a terminal, enter 'promiseutil' and enter the command 'smart' and copy and paste it into a comment. This will let me know the status of the hard drives.
