Is there a solution to connecting the P2R4 to a Mac Studio M2? Apple Adapters do not work. Is there a frirmware or software upgrade and what is the entire step by step process. Thank you.
Pegasus 2 R4 (Thunderbolt 2) into Mac Studio M2

I am encountering the same issue mounting a Promise Pegasus 2 R6 external hard drive (Photo Files) onto new Mac Studio M2 after transferring from my old Mac Pro Late 2013 machine. Seems this is a common issue but cannot find a clear solution to it. Is there a specific driver upgrade to overcome problem and where can I find it? Are there issues in the installation of this driver upgrade with regard to security systems in the Mac? I have used a genuine Apple Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter to link Promise Thunderbolt 2 to Studio Thunderbolt 4.Some drivers suggested won't install. I have older keyboard with no touch button which is suggested to be used in one solution to overcome security glitch. I am not a computer expert so highly technical explanations requiring IT knowledge is a problem.

Dear Lou, Thank you for reaching out to us. Most certainly, the issue can be resolved by installing a driver for Apple Silicon Mac (M1/M2/M3) and allowing it in system settings. You can follow this guide on how to do that (please ignore the PDF guide from the driver .pkg file and follow only this KB guide): https://kb.promise.com/thread/installing-the-macos-pegasus-dext-driver/ Use the DEXT driver v21.1.0-2: https://www.promise.com/DownloadFile.aspx?DownloadFileUID=6963 Be sure to ‘accept’ the driver in Settings > Privacy & Security after it is installed, see the picture: https://imgur.com/a/sNZcRmi After that, Pegasus should be visible in the Finder in ~30sec. If not, please reboot your Mac. Please tell us if that helped! Best Regards, Promise Support THere may be one more switch that needs to get thrown in System Settings, but that's it. Promise did a screen share with me and rectifiyed the problem almost immediately.
Thank you. Your clear guidance allowed me to mount my Pegasus 2 R6 onto my new Mac Studio M2. Lightroom restored. Cabling not the problem. Your guidance to the correct firmware upgrade was spot on. Issue is the clever new safety and privacy measures Apple have introduced in their new machines.Your guidance to remove these protections to allow the Pegasus firmware update to be successfully installed was excellent and with a bit of fiddling eventually worked. Seeing the Pegasus registered in Finder must be how shipwrecked sailors clinging to floating wreckage felt when landfall was seen.
Hallelujah!
Unfortunately, I'm having the same issue. I've followed the KB guide to the letter, and rebooted my Mac Studio several times, but it still doesn't see my Pegasus2R4.
I have an old, late 2015 iMac running Monterey, and it sees the drive immediately and everything functions without issue, so I know there's nothing wrong with my Pegasus, and the cable should be just fine.
I'm really frustrated!
If you call tech support they will screen share and get it taken care of for you. As a final step, You need to gibe permission in file and extensions in Settings.
THe final step after downloading the driver is granting permission is in System Settings>Open at Login, scroll down to Extensions and click oon the "i" opposite Driver Extensions>Pegasus. (I upgraded from a Mac Pro Desktop 2013). Should the Support Line not work (as in my case) call the main number and they will set you up.
hello i have a similar issue.
until we changed our storage (also a pegaus2 r4) to an new nas, i would like to switch with our storage at a mac mini late 2014 from the EOL MacOS Monterey to Sonomia. 14.7.1
i didn't fnd any information if the drivers and promise utility will work after under sonomia.
and i have to use opencore patcher to create a mac mini late 2014 compatible mac os sonomia.
will the storage detect and work like under monterey?
i installed the promise utitly and the driver like in the discription also extension is allowed on my m2 studio. Unfortunately, I had no thunderbolt port at the mac studio to test the system under Sonoma.
will this wire work for data transfer?
Hi Matthias,
The Intel macOS comes with a Pegasus driver builtin. Depending on the macOS version you may or may not be able to update the driver.
The Promise Utility is not needed for the Pegasus to be used, but it's a good idea to load it as you can monitor the status of the storage and if there is a problem it is needed for debug.
The Apple Silicon macs (M1/M2/etc...) do not come with the Pegasus driver installed. The Pegasus driver is available from the Pegasus32 downloads page (it is backwards compatible with earlier Pegasus unit. Here is a link to it.
All mac studio versions come with Thunderbolt ports, I'm not sure what you are saying here. But the mac studio has no Thunderbolt 2 ports. To connect a Pegasus 2 you'll need a Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter. We recommed the Apple adapter.
The cable you have linked to won't work with a Pegasus 2.
All Pegasus versions will work with Sonoma, but the Pegasus 1 and Pegasus 2 may not work with M1 macs unless the firmware is updated to the latest release.
Hi Matthias,
All Pegasus versions will work with Sonoma
that what i want to hear! one question, the workaround with opencore legacy patcher to run sonoma on a late 2014 mac mini has no influence to this?
in the german macuser forum have suggested to try the pegasus2 on one of the mac studios before i updated the mac mini. but i didn't want to buy a 50 € adapter only to check the detections of the storage.
Hi Matthias,
I have no idea how or if opencore interacts with or affects device drivers. But it seems unlikely that it would work if it did. But regarding compatibility, as far as I know it's never been tested.
I have connected the labs Pegasus 1 and Pegasus 2 to every macOS version as they came out, including Sequoia. As long as you add a driver for M1 macs you should be fine. Intel macOS Sonoma has a driver built in, no need to install anything.
maybe this helps you to check the interacts of opencore to the kernel security and Integrity protection
I had a little bit trouble to select the efi bootloader from opencore legacy patcher at the first start to install sonoma. but now everything is fine and working like untweaked. i restart and shut down the mac mini more times to check if the booting into the os is fine and the stroage will start to work in the local network.
Thank you for your help @R P
super helpful - thanks very much
