I updated my Mac Os to 15.4.1 and my (so far flawless) Pegasus 2 R4 is not mounting anymore,
I can see it on Disk Utility and it also shows on Promise Utility as ok.

I have reinstalled drivers, Reduced Security and All Kernel Extensions are Enabled.

Any ideas on how to proceed?

After trying differnt methods last night, now when I click on "mount" on Disk Utility, this is what I get.
I am the only user on this computer and also the admin.

Hi Lucas,

Updates to 15.4 or 15.4.1 are causing some few issues.

If you can see the volume in Disk Utility and you can see the Pegasus in the Promise Utility, then the driver is working.

This appears to be a filesystem issue.

The first thing to do would be to run First Aid. This will probably fail to repair the filesystem. If First Aid does not work, the macOS goto solution is a program called Disk Warrior. It has fixed the filesystem in similar cases. Be advised that Disk Warrior is not free.

Hi RP, thanks for your answer and help.

I ran disk utility first aid but yeah, it doesn't work. Only if I use it in the "parent drive" (pics follow). I'm waiting for the Redundancy Check on the Promise Utility to finish too.

About DiskWarrior: running it will fix the filesystem and I will be able to use it normally from then on?

Thanks again.

HI Lucas,

I ran disk utility first aid but yeah, it doesn't work. Only if I use it in the "parent drive" (pics follow).

First Aid is a filesystem repair program. It failed to run on 'APOS FILMES' due to a permissions issue.

About DiskWarrior: running it will fix the filesystem and I will be able to use it normally from then on?

What is 'APOS FILMS'? Is it the name of the Pegasus Volume that normally mounts on the desktop? If it is then DIsk Warrior will probably be able to fix it.

Yes, APOS FILMS is my raid name.

So, DW should fix it and I would be able to use it regularly or is it a recover app like disk drill where I can back up and format?

Thanks again for your help.

I have a problem which I think is the same as Lucas, even though some of the details of my case are different.  After going through many tests, reinstalls, etc., and talking with Apple and Promise support, my conclusion is some advance in Apple security has locked my Pegasus R4i, making it read-only.  Apple support could not officially help me, because I am running 15.5.5 beta.  Everything worked fine until beta 4, when the issue of not being able to use the R4i began.

I have confirmed several times that my drive is locked in such a way that I cannot unlock it.

R P, is there a way Lucas and I can test our drives to see if/how they are locked?  And then unlock them?

I am very familiar with DiskWarrior, and have DiskWarrior 5.3.1 (the latest release).  When I launch DW it evaluates the state of all HFS+ disks.  (DW canot work on APFS formatted disks because Apple still has not released sufficient technical specifictions for APFS.)  What DW does is build a completely new directory for the disk.  DW presents a comparison between the old and new directories, then if the user consents replaces the old directory.  This has long worked very well on HFS+ formatted disks.

DW tells me my R4i has an optimization index of 4, meaning the disks are very fragmented and would benefit from DW rebuilding.  When I click Rebuild, I get these error messages.  My guess is DW cannot rebuild directories on a locked disk.

I should add that my trouble began when, along with updating system software, I also updated Pegasus firmware and the Promise controller app.  I had been running with an older firmware and software versions because I was not aware newer versions had been released, even though I checked for updateds in the controller.  So in my case, macOS 15.4.1 and earlier worked OK when I still had earlier versions of Pegasus firmware and contoller software.

Hi Tom,

You may have to umount the R4i volume before you can run Disk Warrior on it. Just eject it or drag it into the trash.

Even if it's mounted read-only I suspect that Spotlight will still try and index it, and that is probably the issue.

Some few people are seeing unusual storage issues with 15.4 and 15.4.1, and it's not just Pegasus. These issues happen only after the update to 15.4 or 15.4.1. One example is that suddenly the storage may only work from a certain Thunderbolt port, and it won't work if plugged into any other Thunderbolt port. Since Thunderbolt is basically PCI over a cable, theoretically this might hold true for PCI cards like the Pegasus R4i as well. This can be tested, simply swap the graphics card and the R4i. I don't know if this will work, but it might.

We have not been able to reproduce any of these issues in the lab, and there are only a handful of reported issues. But I have reported this issue.

Regarding betas, there is nothing that can be done. Beta testers should be reporting problems like this to Apple so that they can be fixed in the final release, but every beta is different and very temporary.

Hello everyone. I have a Mac Studio M4 Max 128 GB. I connected Pegasus 32 but I can't see the RAID unit. I downloaded the Driver V21.1.0 and Utility SR23.4.3 but it is not recognized by the computer. Could someone give me some advice? For those who use these systems for work this causes great inconvenience. Thanks,

Salvatore
