Partitioning a Pegasus32?

I am looking at possibly buying a new Mac Pro and looking at external storage options to replace all the current internal hard drives in my 2012 Mac Pro.

1) I am assuming that if I purchase the 4-drive Pegasus 32 unit that it could be mounted as (4) separate volumes on the desktop... right?

2) If I configured it as a RAID 5, is it possible to still partition it where it would appear as (4) separate volumes on the desktop? [I have never used RAID before]

Thanks!

Hi John,

Pegasus32 comes with RAID5 configured which will mount as single volume.
But you can partition the single volume as 4 separate volumes.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Sorry for my complete ignorance in this area, So, if I chose to partition the single volume as four separate volumes, would it stll retain the RAID5 backup features? And if so, would there be any downsides?

I am sure I could learn to work with all my files on a single RAID5 volume, just used to keeping things on separate partitions (20 year old habit!).
