Hi there,

I'm using a SANLink2 10G SFP+ and it works with tranceivers over a fiber connection towards a synology network raid without any problem. I bundled the 2x 10GB Optical at 10GBbaseSR.

QUESTION:

Is there a Thunderbolt 3 Verion of the SANLink2 10G SFP+ out yet? Looking for a solution for the new mac pro, where i just but the optical transceivers into a new Sanlink3 with Thunderbolt 3 to connect the Mac Pro 2019...

I now i could use an Thunderbolt2 to 3 Adapter, but is there already a native Thunderbolt 3 Version of the
SANLink2 10G SFP+ out yet?

Thaks for your help.

Hi Alexander,

For Thunderbolt3 and Fiber connection, you can prefer Sanlink3 F2, please verify below link for more information

Also you can refer below link for download compatability list for Sanlink3 F2:

Hi Ranjith,

thanks for the link. As I use the Sanlink2 10G SFP+ as an IP Network towards the Synology NAS (this works) I have still the question if the SANLink3-F2 will work as a Network Connector over Fiber. In the Specs I only find "Fiber Channel" (which for sure will work.. but isn`t there a difference betwenn Fiber Channel and Network IP Connection over a Fibercable.

In the compatibility list of Sanlink3-f2 I only see Fiber Channel connectors. (like the previous sanlink2 8G FC or sanlink 16G FC. As I have the 10G SFP + for IP Networkinf over a Fiber Cable, i doubt (from the specs sheet) that it will work.

Thanks again for your help in clarifying if the
SANLink3-F2 offers the possibility to connect to a Fiber IP Network and not only to a Fiber Channel Host.

Cheers,

Alex

Hi Alexander,

Yes, there is a difference between ethernet over fibre and FC, probably the major differences are encoding and frame size. You cannot use an ethernet SFP+ in a FC Sanlink (or HBA) because the chipset and driver won't recognise the SFP+ and bring the port up, and vice versa.

The SL2-10G SFP+ should work with the Apple TB2 to TB3 adapter, the driver shows compatibility up to 10.15 (Catalina) for MAC and Windows 10 for Windows. I have not tested the Sanlink2 10G Utility with Catalina.
