I have 2 SmartStor NS4600s (+ a number of NS4300Ns). After a power outage, one of the NS4600s appears to have booted successfully according to it's lights but the SmartNavi indication shows an unknown IP address so I cnn no longer connect to it or use the PASM interface. HELP anyone?

Hi Terry,

First, have you tried rebooting again? It may or may not help, but it's worth a try.

If smartnavi gives you an IP address, even if not on your current network you can still connect to it. Since smartnavi uses bounjour, it can get that information. What you'll need to do is to connect the NS4600 directly to your computer's ethernet port and change the computer port's IP address to the same network as is indicated by smartnavi. Don't use the same IP. If it reports 192.168.1.1, you can change the computer port to 192.168.1.10, then use smartnavi or the web app to change the ethernet port to DHCP, then reconnect the ns4600 to your network and it should get an IP on that network. You will need to change your computer's ethernet port to DHCP also.

Thanks for responding,

The problem is not that SmartNAVI gives an IP address that I don't recognize; it actually states the proper device name, ns4600-...,followed by "unknown" as the IP address (see last line of the SmartNAVI display below):

  • ns4600-623118 - unknown

I have rebooted manually several times including disconnecting the power cord. I have even searched the IP addresses from the list of active devices attached to my router

Hi Terry,

There is a possibility that the NS4600 was damaged by the power outage.

It is possible that the 4600 has booted but SmartNAVI just can't communicate with it. If this is the case an IP scanner might be able to find the IP. For Windows Advanced IP scanner works well.

If the NS4600 is no longer accessible you can recover your data by temporarily moving the disk set from the non-working NS4600 to your other working NS4600.
