New Toys for Easter weekend, but plug and play failed. R6 initialized on plug in (10 hours). No icon on desktop but appears in Disk Utility as ‘uninitialized’. Re ran initialisation process from Promise Utility (another 10 hours) in case of error but still same end result. Mac sees R6 in disc utility but says it’s not initialized and partition button is grayed out. What to do?

Sorted - Erased disk in DU and then it mounted - all seems to be well now.

Good news.
Erase prompts you to select the macOS version and does a format - and creates the partition.
Using the Partition function would have done the same thing - without the erase / format.
