Hello Everyone,

I am requesting help with setting up a RAID configuration on my Promise Pegasus32 R8. I recently bought this machine, mostly for data storage and video editing, for my small business. Even though the original setup was simple, I'm now having trouble getting the RAID configuration to work the way I want it to.

Here's a quick rundown of my current configuration:

  • Verdict: Pegasus32 R8 with eight 8TB discs
  • Thunderbolt 3 connected to a MacBook Pro (2019) running macOS Monterey 12.4

My main use case entails storing a lot of raw material and project files in addition to doing extensive 4K and occasionally 8K video editing. A RAID setup that strikes a mix between data redundancy and performance is what I'm searching for.

For my process, speed is essential, but I also need to be sure that my data is safeguarded from potential hard drive failures.

I'm not sure which of the several RAID levels (RAID0,1,5,6, 10) would best balance my needs, despite having read about them all.

I also check this: https://www.apple.com/sg/shop/mlops/product/HNRN2PA/A/promise-pegasus32-r8-32tb-raid-system

Could someone who has worked with comparable configurations offer advice or share their experiences?

I would be grateful for any guidance on first setup processes, possible hazards, or performance pointers.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Wilson,

The standard configuration, which is a RAID 5, gives the best balance between redundancy and performance.

RAID 0 gives the best performance, but is not recommended.

If the storage is being used to archive data, many prefer a RAID 6, which has 2 drives of redundacy.
