Hi all

hopefully not a stupid question - can I move 3 HDD in a RAID5 configuration from a R4 enclosure to a R6 and still maintain the RAID?

Hi Steve,

Yes, you can move the drives from Pegasus R4 drives to R6,but make sure you have replace the drives after shutdown

of the units.  Also please confirm, only 3 drives are configured as RAID5 at Pegassus R4?

Please reach us through for quick response.

Thank you,

great to know. So, a RAID of say 4xHDD created on a either an R4 or an R6 enclosure can be interchanged. The reason I ask is that this year,  2 out 6  2TB HDD in the R6 have failed and so I'm thinking it may be prudent to replace all the HDD. Rather than use six smaller capacity drives, I'm thinking of using 4 of higher capacity, so in the event that the R6 dies on me, I can transfer the drives to the R4 and have both RAID backups.

edit: yes, confirming that the RAID5 consists of 3HDD
