Maintenance Best Practice?

Hi All,

Wondering if there are any white papers (or just advice) on best practices as far as scheduled events like Media Patrol and Redundancy Check.

I have two separate Pegasus2s: an R8 32tb RAID 10 (giving me 16tb) and an R4 8tb RAID5 (giving me 6tb).  When I first got them up and running, I tried the Media Patrol feature and it ran for hours without much happening ... seemed like it would take days.

So, I'm wondering a few things:

When I run either the Redundancy Check or the Media Patrol, how much of a performance hit should i expect?

How long does each realistically take?

How often should I schedule these events to maximize the chance of finding a problem without increasing those chances by constantly running diagnostics on the drives?

Thanks!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

if you are running Media patrol and Redundancy Check function, it will show down the performance.

You can also check event logs.if there is "Bad sector", or "command times out".or if you see"PFA".

Might need to replace a new hard drive ASAP.

Also check S.M.A.R.T log is also important.

Thank you
