Hi all,
I work with Adobe Premier (on a PC) on 2 desktops and currently have around 12 separate external hard drives (USB 3.0) ranging from 4Tb - 8TB containing many many video files. I have my most used drives plugged into a USB switch which connects to my desktops and import these video files into and do live editing from the external drives which works just fine.
However, it is a bit of pain checking/finding which drives have which content and then swapping usb cables about when needed or swapping usb cables from each machine - plus i have a ton of power cables to each drive along with USB cables.
I've looked into NAS setups but think my 1gb ethernet will be a bottleneck with transfer speeds. I had a couple of Buffalo Terastations some years ago and found live editing was nearly impossible because of slow speeds (file copying seemed much slower than external hard drives via USB) and lag in Premier so don't want to invest 4 figures only to have the same problem.
So my question is, would a Pegasus2 R6 fit my needs for faster transfer rates, a back up solution with all my files being in one place and of course, being able to live edit in Premier direct from files on the Pegasus - and preferably having 2 machines access the drive?
From what I've read, it looks like it can do this but theres lots of reference to Mac's/Thunderbolt and I only use PC/Windows 10 and need to be sure it will work on PC.
My main PC's motherboard (Gigabyte GA-X99P-SLI) says it has "Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 A and C connectors".
My second PC doesn't have thunderbolt port but can pick up a "Thunderbolt EX 3 PCI Express 3.0" card for not much money.
Can anyone tell me if this will work ok for my needs and if so, is it all relatively easy to set up and use?
Thanks.
