Is it possible to leave bays empty and add new hdd's later?

Is it necessary to equip all available bays with hdd's? Or is it possible to leave bays empty and add new hdd's later? Would this result in one larger volume or in seperate volumes?

Yes, you can chose how many disks your want to use for create an array.(don't need to use all of the disks)

you can leave bays empty but can not add it into current array.(need to delete array and re-create array)
