Is it possible to combine two pegasus2 R4 units into a single Raid 5 build?

I have an 8TB pegasus2 R4 but it's run out of space (Raid5). Esentially I want to work off the same drive but add more space. Can I simply add another unit and daisy chain them via thunderbolt and rebuild it as a single RAID 5 configuration? or do they only operate as individual units with separate control panels?

Hi Sam,

You can add another unit via Daisy Chain but it will be mounting as a separate volume. It cannot be added to the existing volume.

If you are looking for upgrading the drives, you can take the backup of the data and then you can replace the current drives with larger capacity drives. Then you can create an array and move the data back into the unit.

Thanks !

Hi Sam,

There is another way to combine the 2 Volumes of Pegasus .

You can do a Software stripe amongst (2) Pegasus as a single volume. . For example, you create `(1) RAID5 LD on Pegasus1` and `(1) RAID5 LD on Pegasus2`. You use the RAID Utility on macOS and create a SW stripe amongst both disks from each Pegasus. This will help you to have a single volume with 2 Pegasus units.

Thanks

Hi Raghuraman, this sounds interesting but it would be RAID 0 would it not. So if one drive went down you could lose everyhting?

Thanks

Alex
