Increased productivity of NAS

Hi all.

I purchased a D5800 storage unit and I have a few questions:

1. What is the maximum amount of RAM that can be installed in each controller?

At the moment, each controller has 2 16 GB modules installed in slots 1 and 2, slots 3 and 4 are free..

2. What size of SAS SSD is best to install for cache in each controller to improve read/write performance?

There are currently no SSDs.

3. Can I combine all 4 I/O ports into one trunk, or can I combine only the ports (2) that belong to the same controller into a trunk?

That is, create 2 trunks with 2 aports from each controller?

Does it make sense to combine 4 ports into a trunk (if possible) to increase throughput?

Hi Alexey,

What is the maximum amount of RAM that can be installed in each controller?

I believe that the maximum memory is 128GB per controller.

Can I combine all 4 I/O ports into one trunk, or can I combine only the ports (2) that belong to the same controller into a trunk?

A trunk cannot span across both controllers. It must consist of ports of the same type on the same controller. We ship a SKU with (4) 1Gbe ports and (2) 10Gbe ports. A trunk can be made with all (4) 1Gbe ports and another with (2) 10Gbe ports. But a trunk cannot consist of 1Gbe ports and 10Gbe ports. And a trunk cannot be made across (2) trunks.

Does it make sense to combine 4 ports into a trunk (if possible) to increase throughput?

It is not possible to create a trunk across the controllers. And the wire bandwidth is greater than the disk bandwidth, so adding more wire bandwith will not increase thrughput.

Hi, R P.

Thank you for your detailed answer.

But it remains unclear to me what is the optimal volume of SAS SSD to use for Cashe.

What does it depend on, the total volume of NAS Share, the number of connected clients, the number of threads?

For example, my total Pool volume is 383 TB, NAS Share is 364 TB, I will use 4 SSDs each with a capacity of 960 GB (two for reading, two for writing), is that enough?

Hi, R P.

I noticed another strange feature: Pool is still synchronizing (65%), created Nas Sharu and decided to check the performance (realizing that the indicators would be underestimated until synchronization was completed), but I did not expect to get such low results on a 10 GB port: 110- 130 MB/s???

Is this normal???

Screenshots are attached.

Hi, R P.

I found what the problem is, the problem is in the digital signature of SMB packages.

I turned off this function, now everything is fine.
