I'm seeling my 4R and want to ensure my data is securely wiped from it.  I can't see any option in the promise utility to do that though.  Can I just use the standard OS X disk utility to do this?

Hi Nick,

The best way to wipe the data is by doing a full initialization from the promise utility. It's an option in the 'logical drive' tab.

A full init will zero out every block in the logical drive, including all partition information. Depending on the size of your LUN, it might take awhile to run.

OS X also contains a secure erase option in disk utility. This includes an option that overwrites the blocks 7 times with random data to government specs. I don't know how long this will take to complete, but the 7 pass option may take days. I suspect that zeroing the disk from the promise util or diskutil is sufficient for most users.
