I would like to disable disk cache (the built-in cache of my hard drives). I have a Pegasus R4 (thunderbolt 1) configured with RAID 10 on four Seagate Barracuda 1TB (model ST1000DM003, firmware CC43, 7200rpm, 64MB cache).

Is it possible to disable those 64MB caches?

I am running macOS Sierra, Promise Utility 3.20.0000.15 and with Firmware 5.04.0000.56

Thank you very much

 Pietro

Hi Pietro,

The disk cache cannot be disabled through Promise Utility or command line interface in the Pegasus unit. It is on the hard disk not related to Pegasus.

Please make sure to update the latest firmware in the unit. The latest firmware version is 5.04.0000.57.

Thank you.

Is there a way to disable it?

I tried installing 5.04.0000.57 but after completing the procedure and rebooting the Pegasus I see always the previous version ( 5.04.0000.56 ).

Hi Pietro,

Please check with Seagate support to see if there is any chance to disable the disk cache in the hard drives.Since it is an inbuilt feature in the hard drives.

Please refer the below mentioned forum link for firmware update:

The steps would be applicable for Mac OSX EL Capitan & Sierra.

Thanks.
