Hi,

I'm using a Pegasus Promise R4. Recently one of my drive (bottom most bay) died and the disk array was degraded. Originally I was using WDC WD30EFRX-68E 3TB for all my bays. I wanted to get the same one but they said it has been replaced by a newer model WDC WD30EZRZ-00Z 3TB.

I removed the dead drive and replaced it with the new and my mac gave me the error message "The disc you inserted was not readable by this computer".

In the Promise Utility, that drive is shown as passthru. I wanted to change the setting but the setting button was greyed out for all the drives.

When i open disc utility, I can see the new drive as uninitialized. There is an option for me to Erase and reformat.

What should I do? Please help! Should I Erase and reformat that disc? Will it reformat the whole Pegasus? How should I proceed? Please help! This contains a lot of important information and I can't afford for another drive to die. Need to resolve this asap.

Thank you in advance for your help.

So sorry hahaha. apparently I found the solution after I post this.

I forgot to unlock to allow changes to be made. I also change the new disk to ignore ownership. Not sure if that helped.

Anyway, thanks.

You've got it, please unlock the padlock with your system password to gain access to such things as changing the settings. On that drive click Settings and change Passthru to Unconfigured, then Save.

Once the drive is Unconfigured you can use it in a rebuild or you can put it together with other unconfigured drives to create a disk array.
