since no drives are approved since 2016, i took the chance and ordered four seagate iron wolf 8TB drives. they are produced for NAS use, and have a 256MB cache.
if they cause hiccups in the pegasus, i have other enclosures

in case this could be useful to someone;
the iron wolfs first were reported as 'pass thru', but i could configure an array under 'advanced'.
i set them up as RAID5.
they are now syncing. but i don't know how they'll work yet!
does anyone have some tips of how to test the reliability of the setup?
