HD freezing, forcing computer to reboot

Hi there,

I hope someone can help me. I've been having serious issues with my R4. When my computer (a 2013 Mac Pro) is communicating with it, the relevant apps start freezing. Then all the apps, including the Finder, crash. My whole computer then locks up. Simply by pulling out the Thunderbolt cable that connects to the R4, it all comes back to life again.

I thought that the problem was a dying HD. I have just replaced all four. This has not solved the problem.

I thought I'd try updating the firmware. I'm unable to do this. When I run the installer, all the drives disappear and I get those error alerts telling me I should eject them properly. Then the computer shuts down completely.

Promise Utility says "system is stopped for unkown reason".

Just for context, my computer is working fine with a cheapo Thunderbolt external drive.

Thank you

Will

Hi Nik - I'm still working on it but it looked as if the initial problem was being caused by one failing HD. Then I replaced them all and it was still happening, so I assumed that it must be something else. But now it's looking like one of the new HDs is also crapping out and I've been supplied a faulty one.
