I recently upgraded one of my 3TB drives with a WD Black 6TB drive. I completed the rebuild and now my Promise Drive is read only, shows 0TB available in the Promise Utility, and will not allow me to migrate to the 24TB Disk Array. I also receive an error from the Apple Disk Utility on start-up. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi David,
It is recommended that all the drive should replace with the same capacity drive. If you have the plan to increase higher capacity drive. Please follow the below step
- Take a backup of the data
- Replace with higher capacity drive
- Delete & re-create array with new drives

Dev,
Thanks for the reply. I am backing up the files now and going to rebuild the array. My goal is to by new 6TB hard drive every month until I can replace all the drives. When you say recommended that all drives be the same, does that mean it will or will not work if I continue to upgrade one at a time? Thanks Dev!
David
Hi David,
The best way to upgrade is to buy all the drives at ones and replace all the drives at ones to create a new Disk Array and Logical Drive. The reason behind this is, when the array is created with a smaller size drive (say 4TB), and when you rebuild a new drive with a 6TB drive, only 4TB out of the 6TB will be used and the remaining space will be unused. Moreover, when you are rebuilding a drive and if you have one more drive failure then you might lose all the data.
It is always advisable to backup your data, and replace all the drive with a bigger size drive to create a new disk array and the logical drive and restore the data.
