One of the 1TB Hitachi Deskstar drives in my Pegasus R6 has died. That model is no longer available. Can someone recommend a compatible drive to replace it with?

Hi Jeffrey,

As per our phone conversation, here are the steps to start the rebuilding process after replacing the drive.

To replace the dead drive, please remove the dead drive from the unit and insert the new drive and the rebuilding process should automatically start. If you have any trouble starting the rebuilding process, please follow the below steps to start the rebuilding process.

If the rebuilding is not automatically started. We have to manually start the rebuilding process from the background activity.

Before starting the rebuilding process please make sure that the HDD is set to unconfigured state. If the HDD is marked as passthru follow the below steps to make the drive unconfigured.

- Open Promise Utility
- Click the padlock symbol and type your system password to unlock the utility.
- Once the utility is unlocked, click on physical drive, click the settings button under the replaced drive, and change it to unconfigured.

Once the drive is set to unconfigured, then please go to background activity and click the start button next to rebuild, and start the rebuilding process. It would take 4hrs to 8hr approximately to complete the rebuilding process.

Thank you for your help. The new drive is in the middle of the rebuilding process. Is there any way I can turn off that beep-beep sound? I want to get some sleep tonight ;-)

Hi Jeffery,

You can turn off the buzzer to turn off the beep sound. Follow the below steps.

Open Promise Utility - click on Dashboard - Select controller from the left panel - Scroll down to the buzzer option and click the mute button.

Please try this and let us know how it works.

I called in and got an answer. For others who would like to turn off the beeping:

Open the Promise Utility

Under the menu, select Device --> Component List

In the Component List menu, look for Buzzer. Click on the Settings button in the Buzzer row, uncheck Enable Buzzer, and click on Save.
