Just thought I'd share a something that has saved me from thinking I needed to get a new Pegasus unit....
I have the Pegasus 1 R4 and it worked amazingly for about 2 years. Then I had a drive fail on the bottom slot. I replaced it and everything was fine for about a year until the new drive in the bottom slot failed again. So I replaced it again. About six months later the new hard drvie in the bottom slot failed again! I thought it wasn't right so I contacted Promise support. I sent them a report of my machine. They told me the unit was getting old and there were problems with the internals of it. They said I should get a new unit. I couldn't afford a new one so I persisted with what I had. As time went on the bottom slot kept failing more frequently, to the point it would fail multiple times a day!! I must have bought so many new HDD's during this time, it was ridiculous, so I stopped using the machine for a while. A while later, and assuming the machine was usless, I decided to open it up completely and dissambled all of the components. What I noticed was that there was HEAPS of dust build up around the circuit boards. I'm by no means an expert in electronics but I thought that maybe the dust might disrupting the circuitry? I cleaned the absolute hell out of the machine and got rid of all the dust, put it back together and filled up the slots with new HDD's and the machine has been working great ever since!
