Assigning users to shares on NS6700

So I've updated to the latest firmware. After all said and done the unit doesn't seem to be able to save it's settings. Everytime the unit is restarted it defaults back to administrator and password as the password. The shares and data still seem to be there and file check says it's fine. But I am unable to add users to the shares as it says error getting data.

When I login via ftp, I can see individual files but I can't download them. I get a Operation not permitted.

All of this seems to be able because the drive itself can't seem to write to the drives I think. Why would this be? Is there any way to retrieve my data? The only data I can retrieve is from my admin's home folder.

Hi Mohammed,

In case if any of the drives in the unit has errors like(Command Times out, Bad Sectors,SMART,PFA) then you may not be able to write new files.

Please try to connect the NS6700 directly to the computer and check if you have access to your data.  If yes, then please take a back up of your data and try to reset to factory defaults without drives and re configure and check if it helps.

Below is the link to download the user manual for SmartStor NS6700 and check Page#60 to know more on Restore factory default settings:

No other errors on the drives. For all intents and purposes I upgrade drives almost every year.

How do I connect to the NAS directly? USB or Ethernet?

Hi Mohammed,

You can use the Ethernet Interface to connect and manage the unit and the four USB ports on the back panel of the NS6700 only allows you to backup the data/file from the SmartStor to the Flash drive.

Thanks..
