Accidental Drive Removal

I am pretty new to Pegasus 2 R6 - running RAID5. It has been running for couple of months without any problems - pretty much plug&play. Unfortunately, my son this morning disconnected one of the drives and the system shows it as 'dead.' What should I do? I know it is a good drive and the only reason is marked 'dead' is because of my son. How can I remount it? I know this is probably a newbie questions but the manual is not exactly of help either.

Thank you.

If you know the drive is good, but the array was still having data read/write to it, the safe way to add it back in is that you can manually rebuild onto the 'dead' drive. Once the rebuild is complete, the 'dead' drive will show up as being OK.

Start a rebuild, and when choosing the destination drive, choose the 'dead' drive and the rebuild will start.

This method only works for drives marked 'dead' that you know are good.   This will not work with drives of other status like PFA or STALE.  PFA or STALE drives are often bad and should be replaced.

If you need more assistance on this, please contact Promise support.

If I am running RAID 0 and the above event happened and I rebuilt the drive successfully, did I lose the data on that drive?

Thanks...

Rebuild is not an option available on RAID0 because there is no overlap or parity data available on the other drives to reconstruct what was on the missing drive. You have to delete the RAID0 logical drive and create a new logical drive in its place.

Ok thanks, but is the original data on the drive intact or did the rebuild process wipe it out?  Thanks

Again rebuild would not be a selectable option for RAID0. Please call Support to discuss this further at 408-228-1500.
