16TB compatibility on Pegasus3 R4

I recently saw that the R4 now supports 16TB drives. Will a 16x4 setup on the R4 work, or are we still limited to the original 56TB maximum (14x4)? And for migrating, would I need to rebuild the array four times? I'm running a RAID 10 array right now because I was warned away from a RAID 5 because of how long it takes to rebuild from even one drive failure.

Hi Kevin,

Yes, the Pegasus 3R4 will support 16 TB drives.

To Install it  , the best way would be to backup the data and then repalce all the drives at one go and create new array. This will be the fastest way.

You cannot replace one drive and do rebuild as the other drives will have only less capacity. In RAID Setup , the least capacity hard drive space will be used across all the hard drives.

You can check the below link for more details.

Thanks !

Thanks for the help. Has anyone tested the Seagate Ironwolf or Ironwolf Pro 16TB on the P3R4 yet? It seems like you can install any decent hard drive from any of the big manufacturers, but of course I'd like to double check.
