Mounting Issues - Promise Pegasus 32 R4 to a M1 Macbook Pro

Hi there

I am havina problem with my Pegasus 32 R4. When I plug it into my Mac using the Thunderbolt 3 cable, all the blue lights come on and the Pegasus 32 R4 is whirring to show that it is working. However, when I look in Finder, there is no sign of it and no sign of it in the disk utility either. Please help!

R4i LUN geometry shift corrupting APFS superblock — anyone seen this?

Pegasus R4i — APFS container corrupt, no valid checkpoint

I have a Pegasus R4i MPX module in a 2019 Mac Pro. The RAID array shows healthy in Promise Utility and macOS can see the physical disk (32TB), but the APFS container is corrupt and the volume won't mount.

Running
fsck_apfs -n
returns:

nx_block_count is 7813423094, while device block count is 7813417974
error: object (oid 0x1): o_cksum is invalid for object
error: no valid checkpoint

All 300+ APFS checkpoints disagree with block 0, so there's nothing for fsck to roll back to.

The block count mismatch is interesting — the container thinks it's ~20MB larger than the actual device. This makes me wonder whether a RAID event or firmware update at some point caused the LUN geometry to shift slightly, which then corrupted the superblock when APFS next wrote to it.

A few questions for anyone who's seen this:

Is there a known issue with the R4i where a RAID rebuild or firmware update can cause a LUN geometry change that results in this kind of APFS superblock corruption?

Does Promise Utility have any low-level diagnostic capability relevant here?

Any R4i-specific recovery path I may have missed before I resort to an erase?

Thanks

Mounting legacy Pegasus issue...

I have an old iMac that end of lifed, attached to it I have a Pegasus R6 (TB1) that I now need to get some media/files off of.

No worries, i have an iMac pro at work (with a Pegasus3 R6) I have the adaptor cable, jam it in the back of the iMac Pro and off I go.

Well...it doesnt mount properly, I can see both Pegasus in Disk Utilities but only the P3 mounts properly...meaning icon on the desk top.

I did try the Dext Driver...though i know that probably wouldn't work...and it didn't, so I'm kinda stuck.

If anyone can offer some advice as to how I can mount the old Pegasus would be great...not life or death, just need to get at some old files.

How long does a FW upgrade take?

Promise utility suggested I upgrade my firmware from 5.04.0000.18 to 5.04.0000.64 on my R4. I've been on the "Please wait. Firmware update in progress..." screen for upwards of 30 minutes and all four drives are flashing activity non stop. Is this normal?
Quick thank you to the Promise team

Good afternoon everybody. I will keep this brief, but I wanted to make an account to give a thank you to the Pegasus team, particularly Babatunde Akinkuolie for the excellent, thorough documentation on the knowledge base site for legacy Pegasus products, particularly here and here.

I have been a long-time Pegasus user, and still have my original Pegasus R4 from over a decade ago. While my wife and I were decluttering the house, I stumbled across the R4 and decided to see if I could use it as a secondary backup solution. I installed a couple of spare drives I had, and managed to scrounge up a Thunderbolt 2 cable and adapter to use with my M4 Mac. Using the Promise KB articles, I was able to successfully update the firmware on my old Pegasus and was happy to find that it still worked just as well as it had when I bought it back in 2011. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the new Pegasus software is backwards compatible with legacy hardware, and even more happy that Promise maintains documentation for users with legacy hardware.

So glad that the old R4 will have a new life alongside my Pegasus32. Cheers to the Promise team for the excellent documentation and support - you have a loyal customer for life.

Pegasus r4 and Mac Studio - Two drives dead

Hello,

I have an old Pegasus R4 unit connected to a Mac Studio. All drives are almost new. Replaced a few months ago after a dead drive problem. Now I have a Raid5 configuration and a few days ago I found my unit with 2 dead drives. I try to attach a few screenshots.

Pegasus2 R4 orange power light and not mounting

Hi all, I have the Pegasus2 R4 with 4x4TB HDD connected to a MacPro late 2013. My unit was having issues where it would randomly unmount and remount causing multiple "Your disk was not ejected properly" messages. Then several days ago the volume unmounted, the power button light turned orange, and could not be shut down via the, now, orange button. The thunderbolt light is lit and blue, the fan is spinning, all of the drives are showing blue and spinning up when powered/plugged in. Also, on occasion, it causes a kernel panic. The system report shows that it was caused by com.promise.driver.stex. There is no window in the Promise Utility app and all the menu items are greyed out.

Here's what I've tried so far:

Unplugged the unit, waited (up to 24hrs) and plugged it back in

Let it run for 24hrs to see if it would sort itself out

Removed the drives and start up

Tried changing ports both on the Mac and the unit

Checked system info - thunderbolt, and it was listed there, although it showed only as connected upstream

Disk utility

removed and reinstalled com.promise.driver.stex

removed and reinstalled the Promise Utility app

Removed power cable from UPS and tried directly in wall socket

Tried the promiseutil comand line interface (Error (0x4008): subsystem not found)

Fully cleaned dusted the unit

Tried different rebooting orders (mac then unit, etc)

Fully clean and dusted Mac

Reset the SMC

Reset the PRAM/NVRAM

Cleared caches on mac

Ran the maintainance scripts in terminal

Inserting the disks one at a time

Swearing at the unit and callling it names

Thanks in advance for any help or creative suggestions you all can send my way. All of my work is located on those drives and deadlines are looming. If there is something that I've missed (a hidden magic button I can poke with a paperclip would be great) or something I can point to and blame for this. Please let me know.

Pegasus power supply replacement

For anyone experiencing a power supply failure in their Pegasus - as I did in my Pegasus32 R4 - after a lot of looking I was able to find yesterday a replacement via eBay from KDM Power in Houston. The unit arived today, install took 10 minutes, and my system is up and running again.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/336158204663

Pegasus2 R6 Thunderbolt - two drives offline

Hello, I was working on an archived video project (approx 15TB). I had an r6 mounted and the footage was all there and available.

Then I unmounted the RAID. I inadvertently popped open two drive draws, forgetting the RAID was still powered on.

Here's the Promise utility screenshot.

As you may be able to see in the above screenshot, two drives are now "offline" and the RAID is degraded and unmountable.

I'm hoping all the data is still on those drives and I can reconstruct the RAID.

Is there a way to get the RAID back into a happy happy state?

If not, is there any hope for data recovery from a third party or is that folly?

Thank you for your thoughts, time and expertise. Bergen.

Pegasus2 R6 not showing in Finder or Disk Utility

Hi all,

I need some help here, asap, please.

I have two Pegasus2 R6 connected to my iMac for years without any issue until now. Both are configurated as RAID5 and have always worked fine.

But yesterday, one of them stopped showing in Finder so I can't access the very important data I have in it.

When I try to open Disk Utility, this app hangs on for a long time and nothing happens. Only once it oppenned but the missing drive is not there either.

But if I go to About this Mac>System report>Thunderbolt, the drive is there as usual.

Please keep in mind that I have two identical units daisy chained together and they have allways worked fine. Only one is not showing now.

Some added info:

iMac Retina 5K, end of 2015, 4 GHz Intel Core i7, Catalina

The drive starts up normaly as usual, tho short bips, all leds blue.

I have changed the order between then, disconnected the other one, changed thunderbolt cables, changed thunderbolt ports, tried with another mac, both with Catalina and Mojave, no sucess.

What could be the problem and what can I do to make it appear againg in Finder?

Thanks

Volume quota

Hello everyone.

Is there a way to assign a quota to the volume of the NAS Share created?

Assigning a quota to individual users (or all users at once) or user groups isn't very convenient, since the quota is distributed equally among users and groups.

I need to leave 20-25% of the pools free.

There are a lot of users and groups, so calculating individual quotas for individual users and groups is very difficult.

I haven't found a way to implement this by assigning a quota to the NAS Share.

I'd appreciate any help.

Thank you all.

need both pegasus and pegasuspro drivers? which ones?

I have a mix of 3 Pegasus2 R8, 2 Pegasus3 R8, and 1 Pegasus R12 volumes hanging off my Mac Studio. I have both com.promise.driverkit.pegasus.dext version 21.1.0 and com.promise.driverkit.pegasuspro.dext version 22.1.7 installed. The pegasus version at least used to be required for the Pegasus2 and Pegasus3 drives and is the latest version in the Downloads > Drivers section for those models. I believe when I installed the Pegasus 5 it required the pegasuspro driver and (I think) it shipped with this driver version. Disturbingly, the Pegasus R12 is not represented anywhere in Current Products and the Pegasus5 R12 lists no drivers. And the latest Pegasus Pro driver listed is 22.0.2. My 22.1.7 isn't listed anywhere I could find from the GUI, though it is findable using Google's site: functionality.

My main question is: Do I really require both pegasus and pegasuspro drivers? Note that the older Promise Utility.app shows only the Pegasus2 and Pegasus3 drives, not the R12, whereas the PROMISE Utility Pro.app shows all of the drives.

My secondary question is: How can I determine the latest driver for the Pegasus R12 and where can I download it? Despite being just barely over 1 year old Promise seems to have abandoned it for the Pegasus5 R12. (Yeah, I wish I'd waited.)

The motivation for investigating this is that one of my Pegasus2 drives has been dropping offline suddenly, for no reason I can discern, and I thought maybe, just maybe having two promise drivers could cause some issues.

Pegasus 32 will not mount after upgrading to MacOS 26.2 for M1 iMac

I had MacOS 26 and 26.1 and the Pegasus32 was working perfectly. I just upgraded two nights to 26.2 and now the Pegasus will not mount.

I ran the terminal command - systemextensionsctl list | grep promise and get driver 21.1.0 and says its activated and waiting for user.

I checked system information and I can see Pegasus32 under Thunderbolt USB bus 0 and says device is connected. I go to disc utility and nothing. I wanted to downgrade back to 26.1 but guess what, all my backups are on the promise array so I can only see the last 24 hours which is all 26.2. Please help as not only do I not have backups but I also have over 4 terabytes of videos and pictures that I cannot access.

I have restarted 3 times. I have manually shut down and unplugged unit and waited a few minutes and then restarted, still nothing. I have plugged and unplugged the thunderbolt cable, which from above I know is working since it can be found. Also based on your download page I know I have latest version of Promise Pro Utility and would assume I have latest version of drivers installed as I have a M1 iMac as I stated, it was working with 26.0 and 26.1. But I have not tried to uninstall or reinstall drivers yet.

SSD Wizard Configuration

Hello, I am planning to upgrade my Pegasus32 R4 with SSD drives.

I was wondering if there are any special considerations to take into account when configuring the disk array and logical drive, or any recommended parameters for using the enclosure with SSDs.

I am also wondering if it is necessary to enable a TRIM function in some way, or if everything is handled automatically.

Pegasus2 R6 forced in "Read Only Mode"

I recently had an external SSD (Samsung T7) failure that caused several kernel panics on my MacBook Pro. During that time, macOS set my Pegasus RAID volume to read-only.

I’m using a Pegasus2 R6 connected via Thunderbolt to an Apple Silicon MacBook Pro (macOS 15.x). I checked the SMART logs for all drives and found that the disk in Slot 4 was still online but showed reallocated/unstable sectors, so I treated it as failing.

What I did:

Made a full backup of the Pegasus volume to an external HDD

Hot-swapped the drive in Slot 4 (without powering down the Pegasus)

Inserted a new identical drive, set it to Unconfigured and manually rebuilt the disk array

Rebuild finished successfully, redundancy check and currently running media patrol

In Promise Utility everything is green and all drives report as healthy

However, the RAID is still read-only in macOS, and on every boot I get a message that macOS tried to repair the volume, failed, and therefore mounted it read-only. Disk Utility First Aid on the Pegasus volume also still fails.

My questions:

Is there any Pegasus-side flag or state I need to clear to get out of read-only, or is this purely a filesystem issue on the macOS side now?

Given that I have a full backup: is the recommended / safest solution to delete the logical drive, recreate and reformat the array, then restore from backup?

Any guidance on the proper next step would be very much appreciated.

R8 - firmware 5.04.0000.64 - does not work reliably with the Linux kernel STEX driver

M4 - firmware 5.04.0000.62 - does not work reliably with the Linux kernel STEX driver

A few years ago I emailed Promise support asking for the 5.04.0000.36 firmware to be made available from the Promise Download Center in their Legacy Products section.

I went back and forth with the Promise tech, but he couldn't seem to grasp why I wanted to load an older firmware onto devices that had newer firmwares. In the end Promise never made the older firmware file available to me via the Download Center or any other mechanism.

So out of desperation, I am posting this to see if there is a community stalwart out there that has archived all their firmware upgrade files, and has a copy of firmware 5.04.0000.36 that could be made available to me.

In case no such stalwart community member exists out there, I will make another appeal to Promise to:

1) make the 5.04.0000.36 driver file available on the Download center, since it works with the latest (quite old) version of the Linux Kernel STEX driver

or

2) have a developer update the STEX kernel driver to work with the Pegasus2 5.04.0000.64 firmware, since that is the recommended firmware for the Pegasus2 units. I don't think its too much to ask that at least one of the available firmware files for the Pegasus2 be supported in the Linux Kernel STEX driver, if Promise won't make the old firmware file available. 5.04.0000.64 makes sense to be that version since it is currently the latest (and presumably last) version of the Pegasus2 firmware.

In my mind the simplest thing is for Promise to add the requested firmware file to the Download center - I mean what is the downside to that? If someone flashes their Pegasus2 with the old firmware, they can still flash it with the new firmware at a later date (say when they can afford an Apple Silicon Mac).

R8 Not working after Rebuild and Restart

Hello,

I replaced and rebuit a bad brive on my R8 Array. The rebuild was successful. When I restarted the Mac Pro, the Array doesn't mount and I get "The Disk you attached was not readable by this computer" error pop-ups for all 8 disks in the Array, with the options to Eject, Ignore or Initailize. I've also tried different Thunderbolt cables and connecting to another Mac.

The drives do show up in the Promise Utility App but the Disk Array and Logical Drive tabs show no configured drves/arrays.

Can anyone advise on what issue may be and is the data still present on the drives?

Thanks

Pegasus 2 R4 - No longer starts up as expected

Pegasus 2 R4 - was working fine until after unmounting and then physically disconnecting the unit from my Mac I noticed it did not go to sleep as expected.

Now when powering on from cold the fan starts up but I do not hear the expected disk chattering that shows the unit is coming to ready.

Unit shows in System Information as connected to Thunderbolt.

System Extension is loaded (com.promise.driverkit.pegasus (21.1.0/1))

promiseutil shows no subsystem available.

Unit does not respond to power button, power cable has to be removed.

This feels like a sudden hardware failure (for whatever reason) but if anyone has any suggestions on how to possibly revive it that would be most welcome.

Thanks.

Question about installing the cache battery

Hello! Initially, 1 controller, 1 cooling unit with a cache battery installed, and 1 cooling unit without a battery were installed in the e610f storage system. Later, a second controller was installed in an empty slot. The question is, is it necessary to install a battery in the cooling unit without a battery, or is it sufficient to have one battery in one of the cooling units?

I installed some drivers from the Promise site and just cant mount the Pegasus 3 drive on my M3 Ultra Mac Studio, I can mount SSD drives, USB drives but not the thunderbolt drive. The drive mounts on other macs. Something in installed is messing things up--have tried to uninstall and delete a bunch of files in Terminal and re-install, no luck, I have only one mac that will not mount any HDD based thunderbolt drive, I know my cables are ok, etc. Have booted up in safe mode, etc...I can't see the drive in promise utility, anyone else deal with this?? thanks. It was working and I messed it up installing something.

Sanlink3 F2 cannot be used on the Mac mini of the M4 Pro

Consultation question
Does Sanlink3 F2 support the M4 pro chip in the mac mini with the system version macOS Sequoia 15.6.1? After installing the driver, the hardware of Sanlink3 F2 can be recognized in the system, but data transmission cannot be performed after connecting the fiber. The green light keeps flashing, and the yellow light is not on. It has been confirmed that there are no issues with the fiber or the module

Pegasus2 R8 + Mac mini M4, drive disconnects repeatedly

Pegasus2 R8 + Mac mini M4 + Apple A1790 Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter: when Pegasus2 powers on, drives are mounted normally and I can access the data on the volumes. After waiting (or using the drives) for a while - usually 2-5 minutes - I get OS-level notifications there drives were unmounted abnormally. Similar issue has happened with both macOS Sequoia (initial OS that was installed on Mac mini M4) and macOS Tahoe.

Before Mac mini M4 I had Mac mini M1, and I was able to use Pegasus2 with the same adapter and cable without any issues for many years. I also have a Mac mini 2011, and Pegasus2 works perfectly without the adapter.

Promise Utility's Event log only shows "stopped by host unplug" as if the cable would have been disconnected, so it won't help much with debugging. macOS logs don't show any clear reason for ejection either.

Pegasus2 firmware is 5.04.0000.64 and I also have the latest DEXT driver installed on my Mac mini M4:

systemextensionsctl list | grep promise
com.promise.driverkit.pegasus (21.1.0/1) com.promise.driverkit.pegasus [activated enabled]

Any ideas what could be causing this behaviour or are you maybe having the same issue?

I have two Pegasus 1 drives set up as RAID5, and would like to update the firmware so that I can run a later operating system, specifically 13.7.8 Ventura. I've read several posts here, and have tried to put together how to do this. I can get the drive to mount using Thunderbolt 2 cables to a MacBook Pro running 10.12.6. I have tried mounting it on an iMac running 10.13.6, it won't mount. I ran the utility on the iMac, and it says the drive has the latest firmware. If there is a post that could walk me through getting the drive to mount on the iMac running 13.7.8, using a Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 cable/USB-C, I'd appreciate the help.

Rebooting also worked most of the time

I installed the Promise Utility and it started crashing & disconnecting every hour or two

Removed the utility and it's not crashing as often, but it's still happening multiple times a day

Max Drive capacity on Pegasus2 R4

Hey all

What would be the maximum size of a single drive used in the Pegasus2 R4? I am planning to upgrade to 4 20TB. Anyone using these sizes already and might have recommendation on which drive to buy?

Thanks in advance.

Compatibility Issue with ST12000VN0008 on Promise A6120 (SR1.5)

I am currently using a Seagate IronWolf 12TB drive (Model: ST12000VN0008) with a Promise A6120 system, running firmware SR1.5.

I would like to report that:

The drive is not being detected properly under CLI command
phydrv -v
or during initialization.

I have confirmed with Seagate that the drive's firmware is up to date, and it uses a standard SATA interface under the IronWolf NAS line.

However, this model is not explicitly listed in the SR1.5 compatibility list.

Given that IronWolf drives are generally supported, and similar models function properly, I would like to know:

Does SR1.5 officially support ST12000VN0008 drives, even if not listed?

Is there any known workaround or patch to allow detection of this drive on the A6120?

Are there future firmware updates planned that will add support for this drive model?

Thank you for your help in resolving this compatibility issue.

Pegasus 2 R8 not connecting to Promise utility

I have an older MacPro 2013 running 12.7.6

I have two Pegasus 2 R8 arrays, one connects and works fine, the other shows up in system report on my mac but the Promise utility software does not see it. I have used the same port and the same thunderbolt cable that is working for one device but I am still having no luck with the second. Any thoughts or ideas?

Pegasus Util crashing entire M1 Studio

Utility crashing entire OS.
One drive failed in the array. I never got a warning from the Utility, despite being set to the lowest setting for warnings. I just happened to notice that one drive light was red.

I replaced the drive as usual, and it powered up as expected and was seen by the computer in System Report, but Promise Utility would launch with all menu options were grayed out, and the main interface window never appeared. Utility indicated all software and firmware was up to date.

I tried re-installing the utility, and since then, every time I launch the utility, it crashes the entire machine. Partial report from Console.app below.

After an entire day of tryng everything I could think of (reinstalling the utility, driver and DEXT DriverKit file, etc) I was finally able to get the RAID volume to mount... I have no idea how or why, but I'm cloning it off to a competitor's RAID immediately.

macOS 15.5 + SANLink3 F2 + Xsan: FC Write Timeout and c3timeout Errors

Hi all,

We’ve recently encountered a serious Fibre Channel I/O timeout issue when using macOS 15.5 with a Promise SANLink3 F2 adapter in an Xsan environment.

### Environment:

- macOS Sequoia 15.5 (latest public release)

- Promise SANLink3 F2 (dual-port 16Gb FC)

- Apple Xsan with MDC + metadata LUNs + data LUNs on FC storage

- Brocade FC switch (with zoning configured)

- Multipath (MPIO) enabled

### Problem Description:

On macOS 15.5 systems connected to Xsan via SANLink3 F2, we consistently observe **write I/O timeouts**, followed by **abort and chip timeout errors**. These show up in the system log as:

This corresponds to failed write operations (SCSI op 0x2A) and eventually causes the mount point to hang or file system-level errors in Xsan volumes.

### Diagnostics Performed:

- `log show --last 5m | grep sanlink` confirms repeated timeouts.

- FC switch shows **extremely high c3timeout counts** on port 32 (~89,900).

- However, port 32 is **not physically connected** or zoned — it’s unused.

- No CRC, sync loss, or PCS errors were found on other active FC ports (32–47).

- Disabling port 32 on the switch improves system behavior temporarily.

- Suspected residual MPIO paths pointing to nonexistent targets may be involved.

### Attempts to Resolve:

- Re-seated SFPs and fibre cables

- Reinstalled latest Promise SANLink drivers (still no official macOS 15.5 support)

- Disabled unused FC ports at the switch level

- Verified zoning is correct for active LUNs

- Tried removing/rebuilding volume metadata in Xsan

### Key Question:

Has anyone else seen **write timeouts or c3timeout-related errors** with macOS 15.5 and SANLink3 F2 in an Xsan setup? Could this be due to compatibility issues with SANLink drivers on macOS 15.5?

Any insight or suggestions would be much appreciated!

---

Thanks in advance,

Can't mount Pegasus2 R6 on M4 with OS 15.5 (24F74)

Hi Pegasus,

I need urgent help, I cannot mount my Pegasus2 R6 on my new MacBook Pro M4 with Sequia 15.5 (24F74).

I installed the Pegasus DEXT Driver and followed the instruction of the manual, but it does not work.

I use the Apple adapter A1790 for connection.

Please help me, what is the problem?

Thanks!

Reformatting R8 for AFPS

Dear Brains, I have just migrated my system from iMac-2015 to Mac Mini M4. (Sequoia) It caused a number of issues some of which are sorted. However the files I store on the Pegasus 2 R8 now have a mixture of read write permissions under such listings as 'System', 'Wheel', 'Everyone' and more often than not a spinning wheel that reads 'Fetching'. Sometimes it also reads 'Admin 2 (Me)' which is not a user that exists. These are mainy image files.

Some images I can open and save seamlessly but others I cannot save. Soem I tried saving to my Desktop but when I dragged them to the files in the R8 and deleted them from the desktop they also deleted from the R8. Apple advise reformatting to AFPS which as far as I can tell will erase everything (all 26Tb of it) The work is backed up to external drives but it also seems usings Apple's Disk Utility means a Raid 5 set up with AFPS is not viable. (It was set up as a stripe with redundancy disk which I believe to be Raid 5) as well as a partition for Time Machine which is now no longer needed.

I use Lightroom to catalogue my work and have subdivided the R8 disks into sections 1A - 9A which I make basic mirrored back ups of on disks 1B - 9B via a hard drive enclosure using Chronosync.

Does anyone have suggetsions as to the best way to reformat the R8 disks to make them work with the Mac Mini? I was hoping not to erase them but cannot see another way.

I was thinking Softraid may be the way to go instead of Apple Disk Utility as I may be able to preserve the Raid 5 set up with AFPS or perhaps I just have to go for Raid 0 and rely on my mirrored back ups if there is an issue.

Thank You

Pegasus 2 R8 - Need Help

I have a Pegasus 2 R8 that I am trying to get data from. It disconnects consistently and has very slow copying that eventually bombs out - randomly reboots the whole machine.

Started with a Mac Mini M1 - had Sonoma as the OS - I was able to copy from it and write data to it without any problem. I updated the OS to Sequoia and that is when the problems started.

I updated the firmware to the most current.

I installed the Mac Silicon driver

I uninstalled the Mac Silicon driver and installed the standard Dext Driver.

I have gone back to the previous OS Sonoma and used the Promise Utility to make sure that the device or raid array didn't have any issues. (unit passes all tests)

I bought an old mac mini (intel chip) with monterey on it thinking I can use the old driver - but no luck.

Here is my question - what am I missing. Is there a utility that can tell me what is wrong. Can anybody advise?

Is the firmware causing the problem? Is there a firmware I should use for Monterey. Or is there a specific version of Mac Os and firmware combo that is the perfect set.

no access to Apollo Promise

Hello,

I have an Apollo Personal Cloud 4TB

Since yesterday, I can no longer access my files. Until yesterday morning, everything was working fine: I was able to connect and see my data as usual on my Mac.

Now, when I try to log in with the Apollo Cloud app on my Mac, I get this error message:
“Impossible to access public server” / “Impossible d’accéder au serveur public.”

I tried several times, including after restarting my NAS and my Internet box. The NAS indicator turns green for a while, then switches back to white.

I also tried to log in from the Apollo Cloud mobile app, but all passwords (including the last one I used and any new ones I tried to reset) are refused as “incorrect.”
It seems impossible to reset or change my password.

I have not changed anything in my local network or setup. Everything was working fine just yesterday.

Can somebody explain to me what is happening please ?

Is this a maintenance issue on the server, or a permanent shutdown? Will the service come back online?

Is there any way to recover access to my data, even locally, without the cloud server?

This situation is very critical as my files are important. And i need to have acces before a major Tech Event.

Pegasus3 R6 doesn't mount at all on Intel Macbook Pro

Hello, all.

I have a 2019 Intel Macbook Pro with Sequoia 15.4.1 and an old Pegasus3 R6 that has never been used on this computer.

I've attempted to download and install all the drivers and firmware as well as the Promise Utility.

The drive doesn't mount, and when I open Promise Utility there is no window or toolbar as it is greyed out in the menu. Disk Utility doesn't see it either.

While there is no powering up of the Pegasus, I do get pass-through power as it keeps my macbook charged.

Pegasus M4 available in 0TB configuration?

Hello,

I just found out about Pegasus M4, and it seems to be exactly what I need!

The thing is that I've already bought the drives to populate the RAID (4 x Ironwolf Pro 12TB), so I'd need to buy the M4 as a diskless enclosure.

I've tried looking at the configurations offered by various resellers (in Canada) but it seems the M4 is so new that none of these resellers have even listed it, let alone the configurations available.

So, any chance a 0TB would be available?

Thanks!

Pegasus 32 powers UP drives on own while Mac Studio 4 MAX is in sleep mode

Brand new Mac Studio and new Pegasus 32 (64 TB). All operational and installed correctly. Quite often, Pegasus drives spin up and eight blue drive lights on enclosure start the flicker, as if copying data. Drives then power down (fan continues to run for some time) then process begins again at some point later. Mac is in sleep mode (low power state, display off, even though it may perform some tasks in background.) Online forums report similar issues but typically involve Pegasus 2 and 3 units. If you have experience with this this issue with the 2024-2025 Mac Studio, suggestions are welcome. See Mac attached energy settings.

Promise Pegasus3 - not mounting on Modern Mac?

Dear Promise support,

I’m using a Promise Pegasus3 R8.

Since switching to Apple Silicon Macs, the device hasn’t been functioning properly. I’m currently on an Apple M4 MacBook running macOS 15.3.1 (24D70).

The driver appears to be installed successfully:
systemextensionsctl list | grep pegasus
*    *    268CCUR4WN    com.promise.driverkit.pegasus (21.1.0/1)    com.promise.driverkit.pegasus    [activated enabled]

What’s strange is that when the Pegasus starts up, I can briefly see and navigate the files, but within a few seconds everything freezes, and I get a "Disk Not Ejected Properly" error. This is very frustrating.

The hardware (including cables and drives) works fine, as I’m able to access the files using an older Intel Core i7 Mac running macOS Monterey 12.3.1 — although it only runs in Safe Mode and doesn’t recognize any USB hard drives.

Any support on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Once this is resolved, I’ll need some guidance on a follow-up problem: after forcefully removing one of the disks out of frustration, I received a “Logical drive set to critical” message. However, I can still access all the data using my old Intel-based MacBook.

Thanks for the support,

System setting shows that it has a Pegasus R2 connected under Thunderbolt/USB (see attachment), but there is no drive seen in the Disk Utility. Thunderbolt cables are OK, because I can see a LaCie drive that is wires to my Pegasus.

I haven't updated the firmwareversion yet.

Does anyone has any ideas how I can connect my Pegasus2 again?

Promise32 R6 just died

Today I noticed that our Promise32 R6 with 24TB and around 16TB of data on it does not show up on our Mac Mini Server any more. Upon inspection and unplugging the unit for a few minutes, it is just completely dead. No light comes on at all, no sounds can be heard from it.

Of course this comes 6 months after the warranty has expired.

Is there anything we can do? I find it hard to believe that a >$3K hard drive just fails like that.

Are there any fuses inside, that might get triggered? Can we get it repaired?

Thanks for any hints.

Pegasus32 R4 - Upgrade Hard Drives

Hi,

Looking for some guidance on how to replace my hard drives in the Pegasus32 R4. I previously had a couple drobo and could pretty easily figure out how to replace drives. I recently moved to Pegasus in the last few years, and of course have run out of available space.

This link on the main page makes it seem like there's just a couple of drives that will work, Promise SATA Hard Drive Compatability.

Going on microcenter, I'm looking at updating the 4 hard drives from their current 4tb to 10tb each, I read in other posts all the hard drives need to be the same size so I plan on getting 4.

How do you know which drives to get that'll work? Toshiba N300 10TB 7200 RPM SATA III 6Gb/s 3.5" Internal CMR NAS Hard Drive - Mfr Part#: HDWG71AXZSTA - For example, this drive isn't on the list but the brand and sizing looks right.

Appreciate any pointers on how to move forward finding compatable drives, and especially how to perform the drive swap, & update process.

Pegasus app http crashing, restarting computer

I noticed that my P2R4 keeps restarting a few times in the day as of late. I dont really update that machine as it my dedicated machine to run the P2R4. Looking at crash reports via console.app I noticed its always the same daemon httpd inside the promise utility.

Path: /Applications/Promise Utility.app/Contents/Resources/apache2/bin/httpd

Responsible: Promise Utility [834]

Pegasus 2 R4 powers on, then switches off immediatelu

Hello,

I bought a Pegasus 2 R4 'sold as seen' from an auction.

I've downloaded the manuals and am working through them. However, I've hit a snag which doesn't seem to be answered in the Troubleshooting section...

I've plugged the R4 into the mains, and switched it on with the front button. The unit switches on, there is a fan noise. The power button LED lights up orange. After about 10 seconds the LED goes blue for two seconds, briefly changes back to orange, then switches off.

It does this whether connected or not, and whether the drive trays are inserted or not.

I don't even know if the unit is functional, but would love to be able to use it!

Thanks for any help you can give!

Pegasus 2 crashes M4 Mac Studio upon waking from sleep

After installing the DEXT driver and Promise Utility, my Pegasus 2 R6 works well. But once the computer goes to sleep with the RAID mounted and then tries to wake up, it crashes the Mac, forcing a restart. It has done this numerous times in the past two weeks.
Can't set Configuration Status on refurbished Pegasus R6

Hello,

I just bought and received a refurbished Pegasus R6 - directly from Promise

It came without drives, so I used the drives from my ond Pegasus 2 R6, after erasing them with Mac Disk Utility.

They have all been inserted and all of the lights are blue. All of the physical drives show up appropriately in Promise Utility.

When I go to set their configuration status to "Unconfigured", I am unable to click EITHER unconfigured or Passthru.

The lock in the lower left hand corner is open.

I am using Promise Utility 4.06.0000.01 (C02).

I am completely flumoxed. Any assistance woudl be much appreciated.

Also, I plugged it in and the Mac said that the device could not be read and asked if I wanted to initialize it. Thought about it and opend the disk utility, but the drive doesn't show up.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Transfer array from Pegasus32 R6 to R4 when R6 is suddenly failing

Hi,

I'm currently having the Pegasus32 R4, but I'm thinking to add an R6 to the setup.

Questions:

- I would like to use the R6 as the main RAID, where one disk array of 4 disks is having both RAID 5 and RAID 6 logical drives. Having 1 pass through drive as a backup disk for the Mac, having 1 spare drive for migrations or as a hot spare. Now my question, if one day the R6 would fail, would it be possible to swap out the 4-disk array and plug them inside the R4, hoping to keep the RAID 5 and RAID 6 fully operational again and this immediately? I know that this is normally possible using the transport feature, but I'm not sure if the transport is not planned due to a failure if this would work, especially considering two different Pegasus32's? Are there any restrictions or preconditions to make this work? Like having to use the upper or lower 4 trays? Related to this, maybe a technical question, where does the Pegasys32 gets its configuration from, is that stored on the disks too?

- In that setup I would connect the R6 directly to the Mac, and the R4 connected to the R6. I would use the R4 as an additional offline backup. Question, can I keep the R4 unpowered all the time, so the 230V unplugged from the mains, but keeping the Thunderbolt cable connected to the R6? Will that do any harm to the Thunderbolt ingterfaces electrically, since power is on those cables for for example charging? It's because I've tried using the software power down feature of the R4, but the R4 seems not to remember its power state when the main is completely removed? So the only way is to cut the mains myself, but then I'm wondering if this is healthy in a prolonged way for the Thunderbolt interfaces?

- Last simple question, I'm assuming that a disk drive in pass through, if one day is put into any other enclosure, would still look the same to my Mac? So a pass through drive is 100% transparent?

Trying to make/define a fail save system...

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Vess R2600Ti. migration.

Hello everyone.

I replaced the disks in the storage system with 1.2 TB disks with 2.4 TB disks. This is an array with 1 logical disk, on which VMs operate. How can I increase the logical disk using the free space on the disks?

I am moving from a 2019 MacPro with a Pegasus R4i, to a Mac Studio with a Pegasus R12. I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to move the data directly from the R4i to the R12.

I haven't been able to mount the R12 to the old 2019 Mac Pro. The device appears in System Information -> Thunderbolt/USB4 to either Thundrebolt Bus, but never appears in Disk Utility.

If I target the 2019 MacPro to the new Mac Studio, I can mount that internal Macintosh HD, but don't see the Pegasus R4i.

Pegasus R6 compatibility with M2 Pro Mac mini?

I currently have a Pegasus R6 with 6x4TB drives connected by a Thunderbolt 1 cable to a 2012 Mac mini running Mojave 10.14.6. The volume is seen as being 16TB by macOS.

Everything is working fine (outside of unplanned power outages during the L.A. wildfires) and so I'm a bit loathe to touch anything, but this Mac and the OS are a bit long in the tooth at this point.

If I bought an M2 Pro Mac mini, would I still be able to use the Promise with it? Assuming the M2 comes with macOS Sonoma or Sequoia. I'm assuming I would need an Apple Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 cable/adapter, and hope it Just Works™️ with the Thunderbolt 3 port on the M2.

Are there any other issues? Would my existing Promise Utility work with it? Or would it require a newer version or some other software to manage the RAID with? I see references to "DEXT"s in some posts, but I'm not familiar with it.

~~~
BTW I wish I could upgrade to a Pegasus32 R6 unit (since it has Thunderbolt 3 to match the M2's TB3 ports), but even empty ones go for $1,400 on eBay!  :-O  I also have a 6-bay Synology NAS that only cost half that much ...
Promise Pegasus R6 Slot 6 keeps on failing drives
Since the beginning of the year, I’ve had three WD Purple 4TB drives fail in Slot 6 of my Pegasus system. All were used but had 100% health and were not heavily utilized. I don’t use the Pegasus as frequently as before, typically running it for 8–16 hours per week. Could this indicate a problem with Slot 6, or is there a broader issue with the system? Or am i just super duper unlucky to get 3 bad drives in a row
one thing to note , i oddly remember this happening to my R4 as well.. is there anyway to diagnose if its unlucky dying drives or issues w the SATA port in the R6 or the internal SAS RAID Card
