      <title>NS4600 - Unknown IP Address</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;I have 2 SmartStor NS4600s (+ a number of NS4300Ns). After a power outage, one of the NS4600s appears to have booted successfully according to it's lights but the SmartNavi indication shows an unknown IP address so I cnn no longer connect to it or use the PASM interface. HELP anyone?&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <title>HELP PLS! I CHANGED HDD BUT IT WONT AUTO REBUILT RAID5</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;I HAVE A SMARTSTORE NS4600 FOR MANY YEARS. I USE 4 HDDs as RAID 5 (Striping with parity) (x4).&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;One of the HDDs died the other day. &amp;lsquo;RAID Status Critical&amp;rsquo;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I removed the faulty HDD and installed a new HDD, but the discs would not rebuild themselves. It did not take any action.&amp;nbsp; There is still a red light next to the HDD on the device.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;In the RAID Management tab, only the delete tab is active. In the File System Management tab, I only did &amp;lsquo;Check File System&amp;rsquo;. Again, nothing happened.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I read the user manual and followed the steps. Shouldn't it rebuild itself in HDD replacement? What do I do now? I tried 2 different new HDDs and it was the same.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Is the new HDD file system NTFS, Fat32 or XfaT related to this?&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Here's what it says in the user manual:&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;RAID status: &amp;lsquo;CRITICAL&amp;rsquo;.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;The SmartStor NAS X volume Y&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;is not functioning correctly.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Check the disc drives. See page 217.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Replace the failed drive. See page&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;217. The RAID Volume will rebuild&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;automatically.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;8.4 Replacing a Failed Disc Drive&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;If a disc drive fails, the Disk Status LED is red. See Figure 1. If the disc drive&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;belongs to a RAID Volume, the Volume goes Critical or Offline. See &amp;lsquo;Checking&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;RAID Volume Status in WebPASM&amp;rsquo; on page 217.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Replace the failed disc drive with a new disc drive of the same or slightly greater&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;capacity. You do not have to power down the SmartStor.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;1. Open the SmartStor's front door.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;2. Pull out the drive carrier with the failed drive.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;3. Remove the failed disc drive from the drive carrier.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;4.4. Install a new disk drive into the carrier.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;5. Place the carrier with the new disk drive back into the open slot in the&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;SmartStor.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;If the failed drive belonged to a RAID Volume, the RAID Volume will begin&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;rebuilding as soon as the new drive is installed.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;During the Rebuild, the Disk Status LED show amber. When the Rebuild is&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;finished, the Disk Status LED turns to normal status color.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;7.3 Spare Drive&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;A spare is a disk drive that has been designated to replace a failed disk drive in a&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;RAID Volume. In the event of the failure of a disk drive within a RAID 1 or three&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;drive RAID 5 Volume, the spare drive is activated as a member of the RAID&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Volume to replace a disk drive that has failed.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;A spare drive cannot replace the failed drive in a RAID 0 Volume because of the&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;way in which data is written to the disk drives under RAID 0.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;A spare drive is not available for a RAID 10 Volume because RAID 10 requires&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;all four disk drives in the SmartStor enclosure. However, when you replace the&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;failed disk drive, the SmartStor will automatically rebuild the RAID Volume using&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;the new disk drive.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;You must designate a disk drive as a Spare. By default, and unassigned disk&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;drive is Free. Use WebPASM to designate the Free disk drive as a Spare. See&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Maintaining a spare drive is a good precaution to protect your RAID Volume&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;integrity in the event of disk drive failure.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <title>Cannot delete files</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;I cannot delete files from my Promise NS4300N. The following message appears: &lt;strong&gt;The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I'm using MacOS X 10.13.3. When the "nas" appears in the Finder, I connect that way, otherwise I connect via go--&amp;gt;Connect to Server using SMB (smb://192.168.0.185/). Both ways no deletion is possible any more.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I guess maybe it is since one of the 4 hard drives got a defect and I replaced it. The NAT seems to work quite normal, I copied lots of files on it since then, just deletion doesn't work.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I checked permissions in Cmd-I-window in Finder, everything ok (I may read&amp;amp;write).&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I tried deleting in Terminal with rm -f ... result: "Permission denied."&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I ran the program "BatchMod" &amp;lt;http://www.lagentesoft.com/bm_instructions/index.html&amp;gt; on one of the files to reset permissions correctly - no help.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Now I'm out of ideas and hope someone here can help me ;-)&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Addition: It's no longer possible to switch the NAT off :-( Usually I held down the power button for more than 5 seconds and the drive shut down automatically. Now all disk status LEDs are green, the system status LED is red, the LED right next to it is yellow and flashing short from time to time.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

      <title>Cannot rebuild array after disk fail (NS4700 f/w 03.00.0000.29)</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;My NS4700 has 4x 3TB HDDs in a RAID5 setup. One of these drives recently died, and the array went into "degraded" state.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I have replaced the failed drive with an identical one (down to submodel and firmware version), but the drive is in "unconfigured" state, and I do not have the option to start a rebuild (greyed out due to no "spare" or "dead" drive).&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I cannot turn off the "auto rebuild" option (to see if that would enable the "rebuild" button), as any time I try and change that setting and apply it, I simply get a spinning wheel for a fraction of a second, and nothing happens - going back to that settings screen shows auto rebuild ticked again.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I cannot change the state or assignment of the drive, and cannot find a way of initiating the rebuild - is there another method to forcibly start an array rebuild?&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <title>NS4700 not accessible</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;Hi to all,&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I received a NS4700 from a customer, who had power blackout. After that the NS4700 is not accessible any more. Power Lamp is solid red and on the LCD Panel I can only see an animated Promise advertisement.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;- shell is starting with several errors, but i can login as administrator and default password.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;- Firmware is&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;- fan control is working&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;- reset button is not working&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;- power button is not working&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;- USB retrieval also not working&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Logged in as root and could assign an IP Adress, which is visible in my network.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Now what i am to do ist to restore date from the disks. Question ist, how. :-)&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I already marked and removed the HDDs, but have no possibility to reset the NS4700.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <title>Cannot Downgrade NS2600</title>

&lt;p&gt;With the latest Firmware it ist not possible to create an iSCSI Volume over the whole Raid.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Only 10% is automatically assigned to iSCSI on the Raid Volume.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;With the FW&amp;nbsp;&lt;span style="color: #222222; font-family: proxima-nova, 'Proxima Nova', sans-serif; font-size: 12.8px;"&gt;02.01.0000.18 it worked fine.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

      <title>NS4600 cannot boot</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;I have a NAS NS4600 which buy at 2012 year. It can't booting normally and the system status LED light as red.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;The HD led seems ok (blue). Also I have tried to hardware reset by press the button but still error.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I&amp;nbsp;google troubleshooting and found NS4600 is EXT3 file system inside, I want recovery my data through linux ubuntu but it seems can't mount this HD. So I am asking for your help to my HD, any solution would be appreciation.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <title>Backing up my NAS NS2300N</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;I have searched all over, not hit the right place yet, and decided "its time for help"....&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I want to find an application that will allow me to do a backup of the NAS. I would like it to be able to do the initual full dump, then either scan/replace/add new files much like a mirror (my mirror will not support NAS drives) would do. I am not looking for real time backup, I'd be most happy with a scheduled backup onec in 24 hours for example.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Hopefully someone out there has done this, and is willing to give me that needed shove in the right direction....&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

      <title>Using NS2300N.... yea i know, its old, but I'm poor and retired</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;I have a folder in the public folder named 'cnc' and it does have subfolders. When I try to delete the files or folders I indicates that user 'henri' must approve. When I log in smartnavi as 'henri' and go to the browser window, I still cannot perform the deletes. Cant do it under admin either.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I'm perfectly happy in reformatting and reloading if i must, but need some pointers on how to accomplish that, or how to do the delete.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I dis try to run in admistrator mode too....&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

      <title>DS4600 recovery</title>

I put 3 hard drives in my computer (Mac) and I'm looking for software to recover RAID 5 data in original folders trees. I have the possibility to put all 4 drives, but I think there is a possibility to get data back only with 3.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

      <description>&lt;p&gt;We are trying to recover archived content on an old SmartStor DS4600. &amp;nbsp;When I first powered it up, it beeped indicating one of the drives had failed. &amp;nbsp;I attached the DS4600 to my computer and opened the device in SmartNavi, which indicated the RAID5 array was critical. &amp;nbsp;Under Volume Configuration no volume was listed, which I assumed was a result of the array being in a critical state. &amp;nbsp;I purchased a new drive, and when I inserted it, SmartNavi indicated the array was being rebuit. &amp;nbsp;It completed a few hours later, but it still says Volume Not Found. &amp;nbsp;How do I find/recover the volume on this array? &amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;</description>

&lt;p&gt;What can i do to repair or set it to facory defaults? The reset button on the back does noting at this time.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

      <title>Cant access ns4600</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;Hi,&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I started having this weird problem with my ns4600. I can't access it via web, I get "404 - not found" error.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I'm able to ping the device, and access via windows to list the folders, but cant access them.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Shutting it down and back again is not helping. The lights on it are flickering normal blue.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Also tried using the smartnav utility, but it can't access it.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

      <title>Volume on SmartStor DS4600 suddenly not visible, RAID array OK.</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;Can anyone help please? &amp;nbsp;We have a legacy DS4600 attached to Windows7 PC via USB on which a new RAID and Volume was created back in May 2016 using SmartNAVI for Windows. &amp;nbsp;(The device itself had previously been used with Mac OS). &amp;nbsp;It was working fine a couple of weeks ago, then suddenly a few days back the 'connected drive' was no longer visible on the PC. &amp;nbsp;(Although it does show as a 'ejectable' in 'Safely remove hardware and eject media').&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Accessing the device via SmartNAVI, it can be seen and managed. &amp;nbsp;However, when accessing the Volume List it indicates 'no volume now, please create a volume first'. &amp;nbsp;The RAID shows everything fine and the Event Log was showing both the RAID &amp;amp; Volume created on 09.05.2016, the date it was originally set up, but there were no other events on the log. &amp;nbsp;As I said, it has been working absolutely fine in the meantime.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I have since tried resetting, and also pulling individual discs so as to force the system to recreate the array, which it actually does (confirmed on the updated event log). I have also tried updating the firmware on the device, but still no volume is visible. &amp;nbsp;I have even tried connecting it to another PC with newer SmartNAVI software installed, but exactly the same results and still 'no volume' present.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;The device itself was being used to archive files for users who had left the establishment so the data itself was not actually being backed up. &amp;nbsp;If anyone has any ideas, or can advise how we can retrieve the archived data it would be very much appreciated.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

      <title>Assigning users to shares on NS6700</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;So I've updated to the latest firmware. After all said and done the unit doesn't seem to be able to save it's settings. Everytime the unit is restarted it defaults back to administrator and password as the password. The shares and data still seem to be there and file check says it's fine. But I am unable to add users to the shares as it says error getting data.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;When I login via ftp, I can see individual files but I can't download them. I get a&amp;nbsp;Operation not permitted.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;All of this seems to be able because the drive itself can't seem to write to the drives I think. Why would this be? Is there any way to retrieve my data? The only data I can retrieve is from my admin's home folder.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <title>Smart Navi does not see SmartStor DS4600</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;I have started fresh with my Smartstor DS4600. &amp;nbsp;I installed SmartNavi ver. 1.9.0.9. &amp;nbsp;That seems to be the last or latest version to download. &amp;nbsp;My OS is currently El Capitan 10.11.6. &amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;When I first downloaded SmartNavi (multi-language) I launched and it was in another language, probably Japanese. I explored the menu and found English, which everything seemed to change except for the phrase "Click here to refresh..." &amp;nbsp;This issue was resolved by launching SmartNavi again. &amp;nbsp;Everything is in English now. &amp;nbsp;The real trouble is this... clicking the "Click here to refresh..." does not bring up my DS4600. &amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;If I take this to my portable which runs the same OS, SmartNavi sees it fine. &amp;nbsp;However, DS4600 is for my main machine and not the portable. &amp;nbsp;I want to be able to manage the DS4600 from this iMac. &amp;nbsp;The DS4600 is going to be my Time Machine backup. &amp;nbsp;I need to be able to see information about it on this iMac. &amp;nbsp;Am I missing something?&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

      <title>How to assign users to shares?</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;Right, so I've upgraded the ram to 2GB and latest firmware installed.&amp;nbsp;I decided to play it safe and removed the hard drives during the firmware update.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Unfortunately the firmware update seems to have caused the unit to loose all the settings. I've recreated the various users, and most of the shares were present when the hard drives were reinstalled. However I can't seem to assign users to the shares.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;When I log in via admin or userx on Mac or W10, I only get their home directories (files all present). But it doesn't show the shares ie TimeMachine, Music etc. When I got to WebPAM &amp;gt; NAS &amp;gt; Protocol Control&amp;nbsp;&amp;gt; CIFS/AFP/Unix all enabled. Then when I got to Share Settings and enable Mac, Windows &amp;nbsp;etc I get the error "Error getting data".&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

      <title>SmartStor DS4600 no longer sees the hardware unit...</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;SmartNavi does not see my DS4600. &amp;nbsp;DS4600 will show up in my Finder. &amp;nbsp;When it mounts, I get a message that reads...&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;"OS X can&amp;rsquo;t repair the disk &amp;ldquo;The Death Star.&amp;rdquo; you can still open or copy files on the disk, but you can't save changes to files on the disk. &amp;nbsp;Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can."&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;There were no amber or red indicators, all drives were blue. &amp;nbsp;Dragging files over to a new location was slow and tedious and I could not save all files. &amp;nbsp;This is the units first failure and it seems catastophic.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;What I want to do is,&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;I want to wipe this down completely and start over. &amp;nbsp;Without SmartNavi, I guess I can't can't do it because I don't expect Disk utiiltiy in OSX to do this. &amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Getting desperate I tried the reset button on back, but I get no tactile feedback that it did anything (firstly, it never felt like a button was there, I could push against &amp;nbsp;a surface but it did not give me any indication that it moved and nothing visual happened either). &amp;nbsp;I need some tricks, workarounds or support documents to try to make this work, please or else I bought an expensive paperweight. &amp;nbsp;bummer.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

&lt;p&gt;now i stuck on setup. &amp;nbsp;I installed the latest "SmartNAVI" Software and was able to connect to the NAS with default user.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;When i click on "Set up" and chose Quick Setup or Advanced Setup, no matter if i provide correct IPs manually or chose automatic DHCP it always stuck with a small popup "Checking network | please wait".&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;i waited an hour but nothing happened.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;does anybody know what's wrong or &amp;nbsp;could provide any assistance?&amp;nbsp;&lt;br&gt;would be so great if you can help me.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
