E630F won't spin up SAS drive

I have a E630f, which previously had SATA drives in it, and I'm swapping out to larger capacity SAS. Is there any reason that the array wouldn't recognize or spin up a SAS drive? The firmware on the array is quite old, and I'm planning to upgrade it to see if that has anything to do with it, but I can't think that would have much to do with it, since it's just making an electrical connection to the drive. I've removed the SATA Blackjack adapter on a few of the drive sleds (the array still "knows" about the previous SATA drives in its config, which I'm also going to revert to factory), but when I put in a SAS drive back in the array, the drive lights just don't even come on. Plugging the drive sled out, the drive doesn't appear to have been spining, either (no rotational momentum).

Ideas? What should I do next?

VTrak E630f throwing boot errors, drops to command line with no config menu

Hi --

I'm trying to resurrect this controller we've had sitting around doing nothing for a year. I'm able to get the serial connection to work, but upon boot, I get a lot of:

Buffer I/O error on device sda4, logical block xxxxxxx

with these afterwards:

WARNING
WARNING - Previous boot of (0) INCOMPLETE
WARNING
Error parsing config, syntax error, unexpected LL_IDENTIFIER, expecting $end in /islavista/config_user/sw/syslog-ng.conf at line 1, column 1:

pam_login_attribute$msÓFUJame
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

syslog-ng documentation: http://www.balabit.com/support/documentation/?product=syslog-ng
mailing list: https://lists.balabit.hu/mailman/listinfo/syslog-ng

cp: read error: Input/output error
ERR: Copy config version file FAILED (1)
... FAILED (1)
FATAL - RAID Core NOT INSTALLED (CLI BYPASSED)

It drops me to a command line afterwards.

I've tried to run the menu manually, but when I try to enter the username and password, it was the management service is not ready. Is there anyway to flash the new firmware on top over serial from the command line?

Is there any way to reset this so it will start fresh?

Thanks for any pointers you can give.

Configuring Ex30 for performance as direct attached storage

we need help configuring our array for optimum performance as direct attached storage. We have a dual controller ex30. We have an Xserve with a four port 8gb fiber Card connected to the chassis. 2 ports on each controller. Right now we have have it configured as a RAID 60 array with 1 global hot spare on each side of the chassis. In this configuration we are seeing approximately 1000MB per second writes and slightly slower reads. We were hoping to see 3000 MB/s.

Is there another configuration of our luns to maximize performance?

Promise Vtrak E610f OS compatibility

I was planning to update my old Xverse 3,1 (Early 2009) to a Mac Mini, that would run Sierra or High Sierra. The only issue currently is whether or not it's compatible with the Promise Vtrak E610f. Any insight on the matter would be appreciated.

Read speed half of write speed

Quick question. I have an Ex30 with Jx30 expansion (40 drives total, dual controller). The Ex30 is hooked in to a Brocade 5100 with SanLink2 8GB Fiber connections for the clients. there are only about 6 active clients at any given time. It's configured as RAID 50. I've noticed a decrease in read performance recently and I can't identify the root cause. I'm getting a solid 1100-1200 MB/sec write and the read is pretty jumpy, ranging from about 300-700 MB/sec. I'm using Blackmagic speed test. I believe when I initially set this up a couple years back I was maxing out the bandwidth on read and write, but the read definitely seems to be a little weak.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what may be causing this issue? I'm not seeing any errors, I routinely run maintenance on the Xsan file system, and I'm getting the same results regardless of the client.

VTrak E830f unaccessible Power Saving options

Hello,

I was trying to configure power saving on a new E830f (with latest firmware 10.17.2270.00) using WebPAM PROe in Device -> Component List -> Controller Settings, but all power options are greyed out and locked to Never.

Is there any option I must change beforehand? I don't see anything in manual. Nor any explanation why power saving might be disabled.

Best Regards,
W.

Ex30 and Windows 10 Pro

Good Morning

I have a question regarding the Vtrak Promise Ex30, which i'll need im my project, to connect as a DAS system on a Windows 10 Pro workstation using an ATTO FC82EN

In the manual, the WinOS supported are only WinServer 2008 and 2012.

Is there no way to connect it to a Windows 10 workstation?

Thank you very much for your time

Best Regards

Promise Vtrak Ex30 and Multipathing under Linux

Hello,

I'm unable to connect our Promise Vtrak E630fD on Linux via Multipath.

Has anybody had success with this or further ideas?

Background: Both Vtrak controllers are connected directly to the server via fibre channel links.

The server (HP ProLiant DL 380 Gen9) runs on Ubuntu Linux:

$ cat /etc/lsb-release

DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu

DISTRIB_RELEASE=16.04

DISTRIB_CODENAME=xenial

DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 16.04 LTS"

$ uname -a

Linux gandalf 4.4.0-51-generic #72-Ubuntu SMP Thu Nov 24 18:29:54 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I see both fibre channel connections are up:

$ cat /sys/class/fc_host/host?/port_state

Online

Online

But by default only one device (/dev/sdb) appears.

This was fixed by enabling ALUA on the controllers - big thanks to Promise Support.

After the other device /dev/sdc comes up, which gets multiple times reported as "Not Ready" via dmesg:

I think here lies the problem.

Why makes the second connection trouble?

Therefore one path is always marked as "failed":
